Washing your vehicle ...

So who of you use a "high pressure cleaner" as part of your cleaning ritual to get your vehicle clean ??

And if so, what type of pressure cleaner do you have ? (dare I ask which one you would rather have ..)

stay away from the yellow ones (karcher or something) they only last a year or two and then it is a pain to have repaired.

Will be going Ryobi next. not the best but more readily serviceable as far as I understand.

Ek gebruik 'n Wap wat 'n fris straal spuit vir onder. Tuinslang vir die res. MOENIE die Wap vir die tuinhulp gee om te was nie, hulle kry dit reg om tot selfs 'n diesel te verdrink. In die masjien spuit ek die engine cleaner ( jammer vir die mengsel ) met 'n "sagter " straal van die Wap af, jy kom lekker in al die gaatjies by.

Ek gebruik ook net die tuinslang, met een van daai Gardena fittings wat jy kan stel om n lekker sterk straal te kan spuit .....

Sien nou die dag n ou het so shampoe fitting wat hy voor aan sy hoë-druk spuit sit ... spuit water, tot die ergste stof af is, stel iets en spuit dan die seep .... wag bietjie en spuit af. werk LEKKER !!

Ronnie moet hom net nie na Toyota Barloworld Tygervallei vat nie .... hulle spoel hom net af, ordentlike was is nie meer deel van die pakket nie ...

uhm ... my bakkie word ook so bietjie min tussen dienste gewas .... Na n lang trip stop ons sommer in Vredendal en eet iets terwyl die bakkie gewas word :)

my kar is n ander saak - is daagliks op verskillende terreine, en haat dit as hy vieslik lyk .... met die Kaapse winter moet mens baie gereeld was om die kar semi aanvaarbaar te laat lyk. Die wat ek nou op soek is na iets om die takie beter te maak.

Not me, don't like high pressure washers when washing me van. Normal gardina fitting does the job, and elbow grease. Only if very much full of mud will I use the high pressure.

I have stuffed up too many things with a high pressure gun before that I dislike using it on a vehicle.

Piet THIS is a big part of why I am asking. I have seen a guy RIP the clear coat off his car with a high pressure washer !!!! JIP, he was using the wrong nozzle/head ..

but then there are also some units that are aimed at the automotive market.

Hoping to get a reference to a decent car wash unit ......

Ek dink nogal jy doen, al die komponente is nie ontwerp om daardie hoë druk water te hanteer nie.

Very true that a decent high pressure cleaner can strip the decals and damage paintwork with ease. Also use a Wap and the nice thing is that you can regulate the pressure. I never use the full setting on the cars- set it down to about 60 / 70 bar and even then I don't bring it in close. For underneath if it's stubborn dirt I might push it up to 120 bar but no higher. Another nice feature with the Wap is that you can do the soap combination if you want.

, if you use the correct nozzle and spray patern it does a decent job, without damage. Has been giving me good service for 5 yrs now

Gebruik ook n geel karcher 4.5bar met sagte verstelling wanneer gespuit word,,,en lesse geleer ek spuit glad nie binne in die engine nie want dan loop my bakkie en hakkel vir n week lank tensy ek al die elektriese goed met q20 spuit...so daai stof kan maar da bly lê

So I go and buy the Karcher K3.19 unit, slightly stronger motor, soap dispenser as part of the unit ... yada yada ....

so the platkar gets a rinsedown on Saterday .... unit actually works nicely (NOT a very strong jet, so the paint is safe)

so what happens when I wash a car ???

Het 'n Stihl, maar die is toe onder die stof. Glo ook aan die Gardena spuitstuk.

My enjins moet skoon wees, maar is onlangs deur my werktuigkundige aangespreek, om die gereelde was van my voertuig enjins te staak.

Die mees onlangse "was" skade, was R 2700 vir 'n Toyota "Master Cylinder". Die ou een is deur roes van gereelde enjin was beskadig. Water het tussen die MC en Booster ingeloop.

Die 2700i se vonkproppe en water akkordeer ook nie!

Ek ry ook avontuurmotorfiets. Spuit 'n 50% water verdunde Prepsol mengsel aan. Spuit af, en was dan met spons en verfkwas met voertuig sjampoe. So goed as nuut. Prepsol koop ek teen minder as R 300 vir 25 liter aan.

I stopped washing engines a long time ago ..... there are no oil leaks so everything is dry as a bone and the little bit of trail dust that accumulates is no bother to me. What does bother me is corrosion, which I have noticed manifesting from time to time (because it's not oily), so if I do get in there with a sprayer, it's only to spray everything down with paraffin which leaves a light oil film and keeps the corrosion at bay for a while. Alternatively I mix some engine oil into petrol or diesel (which is also oily itself, but I don't like the smell), and use that. Cleans quite nicely as well.

Jip.i also do the same.Normal hose with gardena fitting for chassis and body.Some paraffin for the engine.And tectyl for the chassis.The brown one

Kärcher for the last 10 years. I spray everything, enjine included and have never had a problem with the 2.4 Petrol or 3.0D4D. Platcar of SWAMBO and daughter gets the same treatment. Get it real close to remove the squashed insects. I normally start at the back underneath to remove the mud, work to the front on a sloped driveway and then go to the engine, before attempting the shiny bits on the outside. This is also accompaneyed by a bit of elbow grease to assist the high pressure cleaner on the stubborn parts.

I have two of the small Kärchers used for all cleaning, but used sparingly on engines. But I cannot get the little plastic pipe to suck any soap from a bucket. Am I doing something wrong?

Try and lift your Karcher.I had mine on a crate so that it is higher that the bucket of soap.Worked better for me

with my Karcher you have to turn the nozzle to get it to suck up the soap. Same if you use the rotating brush - turn the knob to suck up soap ...

I use a Karcher with a karcher foamer attachment. You add your soap with hot water (creates better foam) first off I hose the car off. Secret to it is hold the high pressure cleaner 30cm away and never spray direct alway angle the spray so you not directly hitting the paint with all the force. Foam it after this will pull any lose dirt off when u rinse off again. The less dirt on the surface the less chance of paint damage. Wash rise and dry.

If you google detailing cars or youtube it you will see the lengths guys go to to wash their cars. I am just waiting to buy my polisher now then I am set.

I'm in the market for pressure washer.

One that can get into all nooks under the vehicle after playing in sand and mud.
OK, mostly sand... you'll know i live by the beach

But i'm also looking for one strong enough to occasionally clean out the sewage line. House i bought about 6 years ago, keeps clogging. maybe it's the nervousness of flushing an entire cistern (day zero habits) thus toilet paper tend to clog, or as the plumber told me, the fall of the pipes to shallow.

Either way, each time he comes, it's R1500.

So i thought maybe i can get me a pressure washer.. kill two birds.

But what pressure should i be looking at.

Game has on special Ryobi 100bar 1600W. Would this be OK for both tasks?
