Chris, so true most of them are just happy to be picked up!!! You should have seen the faces of people stuck in traffic while you drive down the wrong side of the highway with your cargo of broken souls and mechanical piecesChrisF wrote:next time take a few tubes, chains and rims with to help the not so sick lame and lazy ...Obelix and Dogmatix wrote: BUT YOU FORGET THAT I DID IT IN A HILUX PICKING UP THE SICK LAME, LAZY AND BROKEN

"Die Burger-Sanlam" was a very popular event a few years back. Both with a short route for the family and a longer route for the serious, both using the same final few kilometers.
As the route was so short there was one official back-up vehicle - totally impossible to cover the whole length.
Then a a couple of private vehicles dong their own thing helping stranded cyclists ....
Still remember this young kid, maybe 10 or 11 years old. He had already used his spare tube, and got a second punture about 5km from the end .... in tears as he so desperately wanted to finish the race ..... One of the riders I had picked up, had the same tire size ... quickly talked him out of his spare tube.
at least one way to stay involved when the knees are no longer up to cycling ....
