Explain this light pattern

Post by pietpetoors »

Who are the scientists among us?
This weekend we dined at a restaurant. In the roof just behind me were green, blue and red downlights. (they are still there)

I noticed that when you move your hand the shadow is a colour.
How is it possible that a SHADOW can have a colour?

As I understand it, red green and blue are the basic colours of the spectrum and most other colours can be achieved from some mix of them (the old CRT TV's had only three colour guns - red green and blue).

Combined they give something close to normal light and depending on how far apart they are spaced, where one casts a shadow the other two fill in and create a colour - there should be three different shadows of differing colours.

That's just my take on it. :winkx:
