Wegry Bullrun 2016

Post by ThysdJ »

As most of you might be aware Wegry, a small Afrikaans 4x4 and offroad magazine is presenting the Bullrun every year. This year is no exception and the number of participants swelled from 100 (plus a few) last year to 125 (plus a few) this year. This year it is held from 6 to 9 Oct 2016 in the metropolis of Vosburg, population 250.

Once again Gerrie van Eeden and I were tasked with organising and running the whole event. Most of the organising is done, and much of the hard work is behind us, now we start looking at the logistics of running the event itself. For this we need volunteers. We already have a corps of volunteer marshals that work with us, but it is always good to give other guys the opportunity to also take part in the event.

Maybe you wanted to join the Bullrun but couldnt afford all the expenses of buying a car and getting it ready in time? Here is your opportunity to join in, have fun with all the participants and be part of this unique experience.

From our side we will make sure you have a spot to set up your camp, and we will make sure that you get fed at least once a day. This is a volunteer job, so we cannot offer financial compensation, but we will endeavor to soften the blow somewhat.

We already have guys coming from Gauteng, Mosselbaai, Tosca, Cape Town and other centers all over the country to come help us, but we can do with a few more hands.

Marshals arrive on Wednesday during the course of the day. Wednesday evening we have a Marshals Braai where we do a meet and greet, and get everybody on the same page in terms of what is expected of them. This is usually a nice evening and big kuier, as old friends meet up again a year later.

Thursday morning the Marshals will be taken around the rally course and checkpoints will be shown, explained and organised. We also meet at the Pan to explain the workings of the challenges there. By Thursday afternoon the participants arrive and we welcome them and assist with registration and flow of "traffic". This is a huge fun activity, as every team must do its presentation to score maximum "Style" points.

On Friday morning Bullrun kicks off in all earnest with a rally stage.... and our real work starts. On Saturday it is up out of bed early again, for a day of Pan Fun. Saturday evening we have a prize giving, huge party and then on Sunday morning everybody packs up and goes home.

That is more or less the program for the weekend. If you are interested in joining our volunteer Marshals for this event, please drop me an email info@teamoffroad.co.za and we will get back to you.
