Urgent help needed: Alternator for Petrol Prado 2001 - 5VZ-FE

Post by Jaco Versfeld »

Good day,

My wife's Prado has burnt out its alternator - (according to mechanic, I am not close by at the moment to check. So it is not in a repairable state).

What are my options to replace the alternator - apparently Toyota charges close to R8000 for an alternator?

My options are:

1. Will a Camry's alternator work, or is the Camry's alternator rated less (amps)?

2. Where can I find a good secondhand one, which can then be refurbished - bearings, brushed and regulator?

3. I assume I can also fit a Bosch alternator (new), instead of the Denzo...

4. Buy the Toyota one ...

Any other suggestions?

Thanks,
J

Thanks guys, my father-in-law's mechanic in Parys (where the car is), sorted us.

Toyota asked around R8000 for a new alternator.

Fortunately, we got sorted with a secondhand one. Hopefully we will not fry it again ...
