Fire Extinguishers
What size Fire Extinguisher do you have in your vehicle? Is it a 1.5Kg? How accessible is it when you need it? What size fire can you really extinguish with it?
How would you like to have the extinguishing power of a 9Kg fire extinguisher in your glove compartment or next to you mounted on the floorboard between you and your door.” With in arms reach” Length 25.9 cm Diameter 3.3 cm and Weight of 275Grams? Ps. I will try and get 5% discount if some one is interested.
Will Try and organize a demonstration on 5 Des 2009 at the Klerksdorp GTG.

Re: Fire Extinguishers
Sounds good; would like to see it demonstrated - maybe set a non-Hilux alight?
Re: Fire Extinguishers
Very impressive Gert, makes much more sence than the old bulky extinguishers.
Would like to see a demo on the 5th Dec if at all possible!
Regards

Re: Fire Extinguishers
The guy that sells it is from our local Dive centre. WWW.ALLABOUTSCUBA.CO.ZA He said he wouldn't mind giving a demonstration for us. but I first want to make sure that we have enougth people to atend the GTG. No use in giving a demop for 2 or 3 people.
He said that all the mine in the area have aproved the Fire Striker and that the Marine Assosiation also aproved of it. I am thinking of replacing my 1.5Kg with a 8B striker. mike more sense than having a 1.5Kg

Re: Fire Extinguishers
I've got a 2.5kg and a 1kg unit in my bakkie and they are due for service/replacement.
These extinguishers seem to be the answer. I bought a similar unit for our kitchen

I have a 2.5kg in my bakkie. Behind the back seat. SO NOT ideal since I need to remove the baby seat first to get to it.
I think, no wait. I know what I need to get. - Thanks!!!

I can't get to a demo from here, but I'm impressed on what I saw on utube. Just think you okes in the city can organise this better than us platties, so I'm in. If you need numbers to get discount, I'll take three 9kg ones. Of not, how and where do I order.

If it's the same as the one I am thinking of, it can only be used once. Will have to wait for Gert to confirm.

Re: Fire Extinguishers
Seems impressive. I once emptied my own little 1.5Kg extinguisher plus a 20Kg one on a burning Porche. That day I learned that these small little jobbies are actually useless. So this seems like a better option if you look at the video.
Interesting, in the first video Cassie refer to from about 1:15 where they show that there are no mess, you also do not see any melted pipes or plastics.

Re: Fire Extinguishers
It appears to be a much better option than the old BCF cannisters, but what is the shelf life of a unit? The serviceable BCF units are required to be re-packed annually but are still effective for at least 18 months. The disposables are also supposed to be replaced annually.
Furthermore, what are the implications of gas inhalation .... I would imagine that it's unavoidable to inhale the gas that's discharged when operating one of these new extinguishers (a non-issue with BCF units)?

MSA = Motorsport South Africa
They regulate any and all motorsport and it is a requirement to have a fire extinguisher in any vehicle taking part in a MSA endorsed event.
