Isn't it strange that sometimes you all of the sudden hear of something repeatedly from different sources in a short time, something you never knew about.

The past three weeks in conversation with people who do not even know each other, each time this new protein rich diet thing keeps on popping up. The only thing these people had in common is that they all from Gauteng, so it seems this is a hot thing in Transvaal now. Funny enough I heard it from men in all 4 cases, normally woman talk about the diet which let them shed 10Kg in 3 weeks.

I think for us braaiers this is the ideal thing. I decided to buy the book to prove to my lovely better half that when I braai I do not have to cut off the fat and we do not need all those other unnecessary extra foods when you braai. I knew this all my life but now I have scientific proof to fight the fight with me. Focus on the meat, we are South Africans, we eat meat.

So I ordered Tim Noakes book today to see what it is all about. The book's name is Real Meal Revolution. I see it is on pre-order at Kalahari, apparently CNA already stock it, but is a bit more expensive.

Anybody else heard of this?

He he he - lyk my dis nou die inding Pieter.

My pa glo in Tim Knoakes amper soos die Bybel. Hy het 25jr gelede sy boek "the lore of running" gekoop op 45 en n jaar later die Comrades maklik klaar gemaak. :shock:

Hy is nou n maand opi dieet en het 4kg verloor !!
Ek is nou 3 weke opi dieet en het meer as 1.5kg verloor.

Dis n baie snaakse dieet en laat mens baie skuldig voel - en jy is NOOIT honger nie !! :celebrate:

Dis egter nie vir almal nie - GEEN maar GEEN carbo's of koliedrate nie !!!
Geen suiker maar daars drie versoeters wat jy darem mag gebruik.

Maar : jy mag (moet !) enigeiets met vet eet !! :yahoo:
Jy mag niks laevet of geenvet eet nie !
Nou loop ek in die slaghuis in en soek die lekkerste vleise, biltong, boere wors en droe wors - met vet ja !!! :tongue: :surrender:
So dis lekker skaaptjops, varktjops , ribbetjies ens ens ens
Volvet jogurt - regte botter ! -'volvet room - ek kan aangaan.

Dan meeste groente wat bo die grond groei maar daar is n lang lys.

Die boek het baie resepte en van hulle is heerlik !!!

Ek en my pa het albei redelike hoe cholestrol.
My huisdokter is bietjie skepties oor die dieet en hou ons albei se cholestrol vlakke baie mooi dop.

Die dieet is rerig maklik maar ek sukkel net baie met die drinkgoed.
Jy mag geen gaskoeldrank drink nie behalwe sodawater. Geen vloeistof met versoeters !!!
So na n week of twee mis jy iets soets geweldig. So ek koop ma so nou en dan n tab of coke light.
Dan natuurlik alkohol !!! :evil:
Geen bier !! Dis vi my erg ! En behalwe dat alkohol nie goed is nie - waarmee drink ek my brandewyn !??? :silent:
Onthou ek kom van brandewyn en coke wereld af !! :shh:
Droee wyne is darem okay.

Laat weet hoe is jou ondervinding en kom ons hou mekaar positef.

Ek wil nie juis veel gewig verloor nie - is net gatvol om altyd met n braai die droogste stukkie vleis te vat !!

Daar is 2 goed wat my trek na dit:
1. Geen cravings
2. Meer energie

Albei my Oupas het meer vleis en vet geëet as wat enige modene mense kan dink jy kan eet, elke ete was vleis met vet. Die een het op 80 'n artaanval gekry en die ander op 76. Albei het hule lewe lank buite gewerk en het nie geweet wat 'n kantoor is nie. Ek sê nog altyd, dis nie die vleis of vet wat vandag se mense so siek maak, dis die gebrek aan aktiwiteite. Selfs toe ek 20 jaar terug marathonn gehardloop het, het ek maar gesukkel om saam Oupa te werk, een dag was OK, dag 2 was so so maar dag 3 was ek poot uit en het hy vir my gelag, hy het dit elke dag van sy lewe gedoen en dis hoekom hy elke dag lekker vet vleis eet en nooit siek was nie. Albei het natuurlik ook hulle eie groente tuine gehad.

Ek drink buitendien net water, koffie en droë wyn , so die brannas en coke en die bier pla my nie veel nie

Ek is ook nou al op die eetplan van middel Januarie af, het al 11 kg verloor in die proses, en ek gym nogsteeds net so hard soos voorheen.

Ek noem dit 'n eetplan en nie dieet nie, want dit is nie een nie - ek eet regtig die lekkerste kos en bo-op dit, is ek nooit honger nie. Onbyt bestaan uit volvet joghurt en 4-5 gekookte eiers (dit gebeur 6 uur in die oggend nadat ek van 5-6 in die gym was), so ek is lekker honger in die oggende. 9 uur se kant sal ek kaasblokkies en neute eet en dan weer 12 uur 'n koolslaai met mayo, tuna, neute, komkommer ens. In die aande eet ek enigeiets, solank daar vet is op die vleis en enige groente wat bo die grond groei. Jy kan ook kaas bysit en so aan, witsous is maklik om te maak, in plaas van meel gebruik ek Melrose om souse dik te maak!

Die eerste week was nag en ek het regtig sleg gevoel terwyl my liggaam aanpas, en ek kon dit defnitief voel in die gym. Daarna het dit makiker begin gaan en nou mis ek glad nie die koolhidrate of suikers nie. Ek drink meestal net water, maar ek se nie nee vir bier oor naweke nie. Ek sal nogsteeds my biere drink, maak nie saak wat nie!

Ek het na die eerste 8 weke my bloed druk en cholesterol laat toets deur my huis dokter (moes gaan vir nuwe bloeddruk voorskrif), en my bloeddruk was laer as wat dit nog ooit was in die laaste paar jaar vandat ek op medikasie is vir hipertensie. My cholesterol was ook nogsteeds dieselfde van my vorige toetse af. My dokter het vir my gese hou aan met wat jy doen, dit affekteer jou glad nie.

In 'n week eet ek gemiddeld:
1 bottel Mayonnaise
1 blok egte botter
1 kg volvet joghurt
30 eiers (met die geel)
500 gram kaas
ens....

en die beste van alles is ek verloor nogsteeds gewig!

Tim Noaks is maar net een van vele, jy kan gerus die Ducan diet ook doen. ook hoe protein etc. ek het 10kg verloor in 2 weke.

Eben, jy moet onthou, dis maar meer water wat ek verloor(alcohol hou mos terug) en bygese, as ek nie aanhou met dit nie dan tel ek gelukkig nie weer op soos met ander diets nie, of nie alles nie. het einde maart weer begin sleg wees en kuier en eet take aways etc en het nog net 2kg opgetel. Maar mens voel sommer gou 2 kg hoor. dis erg. sal maar nou weer na Paasnaweek en die 1-4Mei weer my eetplan volg en vandaar kyk of ek my ideale gewig van 100kg kan beryk. ek het gese 3maande dan skud ek die 20kg gou gou af.eerste gewig val gou, dan moet jy maar bietjie by oefen, soos met enige eetplan.
so kom ons kyk en sien.

Daai boek maak baie sin. Ek self het ook al gewig verloor en voel baie beter en energiek.

Kevin - daars nie baie leeswerk nie !
70% van die boek is resepte - die eerste stuk verduidelik hy baie mooi (en eenvoudig vir mense soos ek) hoekom die spulletjie werk !
Die laaste paar bladsye is redelik wetenskaplik - so ek hou verby da !
Hulle is vier wat die boek saamgestel het en gaan beslis n hele paar miljoen uit die boek maak ! Hy bly uitverkoop !

Kan altyd vir jou afskrifte maak !- sorry Oom Tim ! :shh:

+ 10 Want ek is op my eie missie en steur my nie te veel aan die goed nie. Het wel hoe kolesterol en bietjie rond, maar lewe gelukkig daarmee.
Swambo het ook die boek gekoop, maar volg die dieet/eetplan nie heeltemaal nie :banned: :lmao:

Ek moet bieg ekt ok v die dieet geval en in n jaar se tyd so amper 45kg al verloor.
Ek het wel laas week vir die eerste keer bici probleme opgetel met gout in my voete agv te veel rooi vleis proteine... En veral boerewors. Moes dit twee weke los vd inflamasie en dr het my aangeraai om wel net een snytjie low gi brood id oggend in te werk. Maar ja dis na n jaar se annhou...

bici probleme opgetel met gout in my voete agv te veel rooi vleis proteine.
Shame, vleis kry altyd die skuld, google bietjie vir die gout lys.
Baked beans is hoër op in die lys as vleis en op sommige lyste is selfs tuna gevaarliker as rooi vleis.

Jare gelede was Noakes een van die ouens wat gedink het Atkins praat nonsens.

Vandag het hy sy vertroue in carbs verloor en sy opinie heeltemal verander.

Ek het daai ook gesien, paar jaar terug het hy gedink carbs is die alfa en omega, nou weer protiëne.
Ek dink dit hang af wie hulle sponsor, die vleisraad of die aartapelraad?

Is soos die botter/margarien storie, eers is botter die slegste ding wat jy kan eet dan is dit margarien se beurt om sleg te wees, hang seker maar af wie betaal om die studie te laat doen

Thys Tim het so 3 of 4 jaar terug al die "storie" loop en verkoop ....


Daai tyd het baie uitgewys net hoe baie dit ooreenstem met die "Atkinsons dieet".



Daar was ook n paar gesprekke op die radio - met STERK opinies vir en teen dit .....


Tim het toe dadelik uitgewys dat dit net vir "party" mense sal werk ,,,,, yada yada ...... kan nie meer al die detail onthou nie - wonder of hy meer hieroor uitbrei in die boek ??



PS - met navorsing oor die Atkinson dieet is dit bewys dat daar "iets" in die vleis is wat "eetlus onderdruk" (jou laat vol voel). DIT is al n paar keer bespreek op Discovery kanaal ....

Ek het nog nie die boek gelees, maar as ek ander so luister dink ek :niks wat onder die grond groei" is 'n baie gevaarlike veralgemening. Ek weet goedsoos aartapels sit om in suiker en ek is van opinie dat suier eintlik die groot probleem is. Daar is studies wat wys dat wortels seker kankers kan genees (baie wortels eet of eintlik wortelsap drink), rou uie verlaag cholesterol, rou knoffel verlaag ook cholesterol en is 'n natuurlike antibiotike, net 'n paar voorbeelde

Ek kan nie dink dat ek al ooit iets gelees het waarvoor suiker goed is. Selfs 'n slegte ding soos koffie het 'n goeie eienskap, hy is 'n sterk anti oksidant, maar suiker?. Stysel sit om in suiker as jy dit ge eet het, dis hoekom stysel so sleg is, Dan om dit erger te maak het alles ekstra suiker in, gaan kyk maar, selfs iets soos pro vitas wat mens dink gesond moet ees het ekstra suiker in, en dan sit die koring nog om in ekstra suiker as jy dit klaar ge eet het.

Die stysel en sukker argument maak vir my sin, maar alles wat onder die grond groei sal ek maar moeilik glo.

Ons het juis gisteraand ook oor dit gepraat.Ek dink dit het baie dalk met kombinasies te doen.
Toe ons getoer het het ons omtrent net stysels geet en bitter min vleis,melkprodukte en soetgoed.
Ek het omtrent 10 kilo's verloor.

Ek kan daai deel ook nie verstaan nie,maar ek hou baie van vleis so dalk moet ek dit maar 'n go gee

Toe ek geswot het (dis nou omtrent 20 jaar terug) het ek 'n artikel gelees waar die ou gesê het mens moet nie jou protiëne en stysel kombineer nie
Hy het gese jy kan jou stysel eet, maar eet dan net stysel en eet 2 uur later jou protiëne, wat bietjie onprakties is, maar dit sluit aan by wat George nou net sê. Is so lank terug ek kan glad nie onthou wie die ou was en waaroor die res van die artikel gegaan het, maar daardie gedeelte het my altyd bygebly.

Om by George aan te sluit; en toe George terugkom het hy 'n biltong winkel oopgemaak en heeldag sit en biltong en droëwors eet, en het die 10Kg weer opgetel. Dit weerspreek weer die "slegs vleis" teorie. (Nou tyd om uit die kas te kom, dalk was daar 'n paar pakkies chips ook betrokke.)

As ek China toe gaan eet ek ook amper niks stysel nie, hulle is nie hot op die brood nie en ook nie op soetgoed nie. Jy eet meestal groen groente en vis. Wanneer ek daar is verloor ek altyd ook gewig en ek het so baie energie dat ek in die aande amper nie aan die slaap kan raak nie. Hier by die huis, as my kop die kussing raak is ek weg. Jy eet wel baie rys daar wat niks doen, dis hoekom ek dink dit is meer die koring produkte wat die probleem veroorsaak, soos brood, pasta, ens.

I think it is crucial that you read and understand the theory and the reasons why you should not eat carbs (or not that much) If you read the book you will see that you are allowed some carbs, but not more than 50g a day.
So my Saturday morning Toast, eggs and bacon is not under threat. :celebrate:

The first people who told me about the diet actually stopped using it.
The lady's cholesterol went up from 3.5 to 7 and her liver function down from 65% to 45%.

Me thinks the fat story is dangerous but I still think if one at least cut out corn products and sugar it will make a huge difference.

Wow. This ia a bit scary. Must say with me the opposite happened. I was on chronic medication for cholesterol and diabetes type 2 (already on a 1000mg twice a day) and I was able to leave both. I dont use any medication for the last six months and everything is where they should be based on daily blood sugar tests and monthly cholesterol tests.
But i have never checked liver function. There just does not seem to be a one fit all solution...

Ek se altyd "hou matigheid voor oe". Ek eet wat ek will van Jelly Tots, Easter eggs, pizza, eiers, weatbix, chips, baie biltong, roosterbrood, hamburgers, wors, kaas baie vrugte maar ek hou matigheid voor oe! Klein porsies werk vir my, en ek het nog na al die jare my gewig konstant gehou! Weeg 80Kg van die "Army" dae en weeg dit nog steeds. Bygese, ek dink ek is ook maar net gelukkig. Miskien iets met die metabolisme te doen. Ek is nou op "cayenne pepper" en het ongelooflike energie vir my ouderdom. Die ander sukses vir my is om nooit minder as 1 liter "goeie" water elke dag te drink nie!

there in lies the answer .....


as our lives change, less physical activity, more office time, more stress ,.... so our excercise adn diet should be addapted to suit .....


and then each of us have some or other unique medical condition, which further impacts on what may or may not work for YOU .....


at best, there are "general guidelines" to healthy balanced food intake AND excercise ....

Op p51 het hy die "ten commandments of beginner Banting" en punt nommer 6 is
"Don't eat too much protein. We can't stress that enough. This is not high protein eating. You shouldn't need more than 80g of meat with any meal. The main aim is reducing carbs, then increasing fat. Protein stays the same or it could even decrease."

Can you imagine how strong this guy's legs are. You try and walk 100 meters with a 80Kg bag of mielies on your shoulder, I bet you won't make it. This guys was walking with that amount of extra weight every day of his life. His legs must be supper strong.

We started on this plan 10 days ago. The Blonde started it. Heaven knows why, because I am sure her fat must be in off-site storage somewhere, because I cant see it... :twisted: :twisted:

In the first week I lost 3kgs. That was only because we cut out all sugar, starch and especially bread.... We are finding our way about the Green and Orange lists and I catch myself reading the little table of contents on any product we buy in the supermarkets.

I dont feel hungry between meals like I used to, and if I get the craving to snack, I snack on biltong (3 or 4 slices) and that is that. We are 5 guys in the office who are all on this diet plan now, and we go out for breakfast every morning, just to kick off the day. That i usually an omelet with all the good trimmings or a good bacon and eggs affair without chips and toast... :thumbup: :thumbup:

It is a lifestyle thing, and once you get into it, you become aware of what you are shoving down your throat.. and you learn what is good for you and what is not. I use my body as my guide, and it tells me what it wants me to feed it with...

Brussel sprouts will never be my favourite food, but with fried bacon and cream it is not half bad!! :shock: :shock:

Will I never ever again have a hamburger? or a rum & coke? or a lekker braaibroodjie? Of course I will!! But not to the same extent as I used to... For now I have a goal, and I want to reach it. Once there I will set another, but only after I celebrated it with a something on the Red list... Who knows, maybe my body tells me it doesnt want that any more... and that can be motivation to make my next goal... :thumbup: :twisted: :twisted:
