Polentswa Wildernis Trail

Post by corneildup »

We will be doing the Polentswa Wildernis Trail (which includes overnight camping in Polentswa, Sesatswe and Lang Rambuka) in April. Will we be able to make it towing 4X4 trailers? (Conqueror Comfort).

Corneil I am sure you will be able to do it with the comfort, but you will have to keep the weight down in the trailer as the trailer can quickly act as an anchor and get you bogged down. Also depending on tyres, load rating of tyres and the load, you should be able to deflate the trailers tyres to 0.5 bar in heavy sand to ease the towing. Sand towing will require you to change the way you drive off road a bit as it will require on curugated dunes a slightly more "agressive" approach in order to make it to the top and gear selection will be important here to your success in easy of towing.

What Johan said. The tracks are quite firm, BUT they are cross-axled on the dunes, so you need to plan your ascent properly. Use diff locks if you have and deflate properly for the journey. Run on top of the sand rather than on the sand.
