Hi,
I am planning a trip to Lesotho during July 2017.
#snowhunting is our family theme this year.
We will be spending a day at Afriski and that is fine to drive from Fouriesburg.
The following 2 days we will be in Lesotho taking on Sani pass.

Since this will only be a once in a lifetime experience, I really want to make the most of it.
Does someone or somebody possibly have snow chains for me to rent/use please? :beg: :beg: :beg: :beg:

I don't want to spend R3.5k just for a once off trip.
I would be more than happy to rent?

Thanks in advance!

2 left thumbs. That is why you get specialists in each industry. Unfortunately I would not have an idea on where to start. Will google some ideas tomorrow.

Hi Jacques

I was there when it was snowing.I f the pass is unsafe they dont open it.When they open it is safe to go.I would not bother with snow chains.unless you go off the(way) beaten track. We helped some people that was stuck after the pass. All was done without chains

Thanks George,
I am a bit of an "too safe packer" I always pack more than I should. Being a paramedic has made me a bit paranoid.... :blushing:
Thanks for the advice.
Which part of the pass were you on?
I am going in by Fouriesburg, spending the day at Afriski and then moving along the Northern Side of Lesotho the following day eventually exiting by Underberg region.
I have limited time, otherwise I would have liked to go pass Katse dam region as well. So trying to make the most of the visit.
Here is the map:

Hi Jacques,

I had a look at your route, I went up on the same route some time ago, from Fouriesburg up you start getting nice tarred passes to drive. It could get quite busy going up with people going to Afriski and trucks going up to the mine at Letseng. At some point past Afriki it becomes more of a gravel road, the mine clears this road but only up to the mine itself. From there on the road does not always get cleared. I'd also try and arrange a set of snow chains.

For a long time now I promised to take the wife but just never get to it. :shh:

Thanks for the advice. I have to say, I agree with the chains.
I would rather have something and not need it, than needing something and not have it!

I will continue my search for some chains.......

Thanks. That was my first stop. Saw the prices and then thought I would rather search on the group.
Not really worth my $$ for a once off trip...

The search continues!
