I dream of owning one of these one day.

I dream of rebuilding one of these up one day.

I am not sure that the FJ40 ever made it to our shores, if I had to choose I would go with the FJ45.
Seems to be a lot of them down at the coast rusting away but still running, was in Sodwana 2 weeks ago and the dive charters that we were with had 2, in bad aesthetic condition yet still running and working everyday, but a fantastic project to rebuild.

Does anyone know, are there many around up on the Highveld? your will probably find they are dotted around the country , rotting away on farms too.

I have restored a few of them in the past and if i can give you good advice; "pay more for a good one" The parts are very expensive and hard to come by, one of my clients rebuilt one and spent almost R400 000 oo.

I would also suggest you test-drive one before you start, they look cool, strong and very capable, but looks can be deceiving.

Well thats good to know Hoppy.

I was thinking one in semi good nick, and without an engine, a Lexus V8 D4D in there
As for the hard ride, there would be no standard suspension in there, obviously all decent suspension parts.

But like I said, a dream. I havent won the lotto yet

Not sure hey... Bought the body with 3F motor for R50K, The OME was +-R20K, 33's + Mags R13K for 5!!, +-R50K for the 1UZ conversion and a few small thing replaced like brake and clutch masters, Juke box inside, steering damper etc say another R5K... so to far it is costing me +- R140K... There is a few cancer spots that need to be taken care of, the SOA conversion will be another R15K estimated with the OME greasables so it might get to the R200k mark some day...
