Limited stock arriving Monday/Tuesday, if they sell well we'll get more in.

Cassie, the file format is *.mov. I was unable to get the included viewer to work but must admit I did not really bother about it because the (free) Registrator Viewer program is excellent, as can be seen in the pics above.

Don't know what compression standard it uses, I've put the user manual down somewhere and can't seem to find it now... :siffler:

The Video Codec it uses is H.264.

The photo quality is very acceptable although not in the league of GoPro and similar items.

Of the two models we tested, one indicates miles per hour on the LCD screen while the other indicated km/hr on the LCD screen (although the "speedometer" in the viewer reflects km/hr in both cases - this is selectable in the viewer). I believe the new models will be metric.

It is supplied with a fairly long cigarette lighter cable which can be tucked away along the roof "A" pillar, the unit should be mounted in the region of the rear-view mirror for optimum vision. It also is supplied with a PC-camera USB-miniUSB cable and a cable to connect to an HDMI display.

It has an extremely sensitive microphone and I was shocked to hear some words muttered by a voice sounding incredibly like mine using various adjectives to describe certain drivers who do not belong on the road when I played it back on the computer.

I will edit my first post to show the various recording times with different formats and microSD card capacities.

Thanks Eric. To my knowledge the H.264 is best. One more question though. I bought a simular Fonk Kong special and it's file sizes was rediculously big. What is this units file size for a 3 minute segment in 1080p?

I did the same and I agreee. You almost cant save the files as they take up too much space... And quality also not even great to compensate for this....

Cassie, I haven't tried it at anything else than 1280x720 resolution. Here is a screen dump of what I have got so far.

The camera only has the following formats:

1920 x 1080P
1440 x 1080P
1280 x 720P
848 x 480

I've edited my first post above to indicate running times on 4 and 8GB cards. Interestingly, if I add my times up as shown in the attached PDF file, I have already exceeded 5 hours recording time, which is more than the claimed figures from the Manufacturer.

The reason I ask is the fong kong special version I got used 440Mb for 3 minutes of footage at 1920x1080p. That is much much more than my GoPro uses for the same resolution

Comparitively what is the file size on a gopro? The one I used also in excess of 400MB for 3 min...
PS: luv the signature. Some impressive potato youve got there...

Niot live, in other words not if you're sitting at your PC at home while the vehicle is out. But upon the vehicle's return, you can either just view the movie by using a suitable card reader but without the GPS information as above, or by using the camera (it is a DVR) you can track the historical data using Google Maps or Google earth, provided your PC is connected to the internet.

I bought a Dual Camera Car Blackbox DVR with GPS Logger and G-Sensor in Thailand a few months ago, very happy with it, got a C10 32GB Micro SD card with it. Well worth the money!

You can save a route to your HDD and read it from your PC whenever, you still get the red track in Google Earth as shown in my photo above in the first post. You can then run the video without the camera or microSD card plugged in.

I have installed one of the new units in Hound Dog now but have not yet built up sufficient data for test purposes. Difficult to do when you're only three blocks away from work but the video quality is vastly enhanced over the two earlier cams that I bought for test purposes. I will post new images as soon as I have acquired some. The speed is also displayed in km/hr, I think the ones they originally shipped to me were destined for the USA ;)

Travelled to Champion Tyres Stilfontein* today and I must say the image quality of the new range of cameras far exceeds that of the initial units I tried!!

You can set the Map feature to either Google Earth view, as below:
Dash Cam GE (R).jpg
Google Earth View
(179.12 KiB) Downloaded 1963 times

or as Google Maps view!
Dash Cam Map (R).jpg
Google maps View
(174.46 KiB) Downloaded 1963 times
Why was i going only 27km/hr? Because i was turning left into the road you see.

* While I was there fitting a new rim to the spare, a gentleman owning a Construction Company said I must name my price - he wants Hound Dog. Even offered me a lift back to Klerksdorp. He drove a new Disco V6 diesel - should I have just swapped? ;)

Some photos I took when climbing Zeerust Koppie...

The resolution is gaga here but click on the pic for a better view. I reduced the pixel count to below 200kB from the original 5MB file size so it looks far better normally.

Guys, here is something I omitted to mention, never thought of doing so in fact.

Please ensure that you have removed the tiny little protective lens sticker before you actually use the camera, or you will find your videos are not as crystal clear as they should be.

This has caught a few of us out, including me... :siffler:

LOL... this was brought to my attention last night by a chap who has just ordered his second camera. I offered to replace the camera if the pic is fuzzy, although this is the first I had heard of this "problem". Then the penny dropped, I had the same experience but after removing the little lens protector - Hey, Presto!

It is very small and one needs to look carefully to find it, but it is there.

The audio feed is from the car radio - they play weird music on cape FM! ;)

The idea is to demonstrate the audio quality over the previous model, which had a wide-range microphone and picked up the 'rumble' from the vehicle as it was driving, thereby drowning out much of the other audio. The Version 2 camera has filters to remove the lower bass frequencies and hence the absence of the rumble as was evident on the version 1 camera.

Since sending you that Slim Whitman tune you were looking for, I found another tune titled "I remember you" - I know it as a Frank Ifield tune, but apparently it belongs to Slim, and must admit I really liked it. There, I said it...! ;)
