Thanks Stef, but I was thinking along the lines of getting an intercom to the back of the bakkie in the canopy.
Sometime the kids drive in the back, and they need a quick "sorting out" :banned:
I would like to be heard very clearly, and thought if the radio could do PA, then I don't need more equipment!

PS: I have great kids!! :D:

Hi Eric,
Please could you email me the price of the Kirisun PT4200 VHF portable Radio and also the PT8000 including a antenna.
I have a camper so do not know where I could put the aerial, as they advise against drilling through the roof. I would also be looking for a roof console in which to fit the radio as there does not seem to be any space elsewhere; if you can help I would greatly appreciate it. Thanx
Edge

Hi Edge,

Andy has drawn my attention to this message - I'm not sure if I did reply directly to your email or not, but will do so now.

I would also not suggest drilling a hole through the camper. Does the Camper overhang the side pillars of the Hilux or not? If not, the best place to mount the antenna is on the B pillar for a single cab or the C pillar for a double cab. It would be great if you could post a photo of the Hilux with Camper, it would be easier to suggest an antenna mounting place.

Regarding the mounting of the radio, there is a thread on the forum discussing this but be aware it does lower the roof-line somewhat but certainly makes for a handy mounting point for the radio.

I have emailed you a forum price list directly but suggest you consider the Kirisun PT8100 in place of the PT8000. Same radio, but fitted with an Alpha-Numeric LCD display which just makes it easier to ID the channel you're on. The new ORRA channel plan uses multi-channels. Dimensions of the radios are all in the PL.

Hmmm... I've since found your vehicle pics. The only practical solution would be to mount the antenna either on the front fender or the Bull Bar, as high up as possible on the passenger side. Neither of these positions is ideal, but the overhang of your camper would preclude the B-Pillar and rooftop.

This will still work well for convoy driving up to about 5km or so which will hopefully suffice. The top of that camper is probably fibreglass as well, which would also not be suitable for an antenna mount.

Another thought...

You could also consider one of these mounts:

Gutter Mount or Boot Lip Mount (which should also fit the bonnet)

Then there is a glass-mount antenna available as well, this would be the better option but once again it would have to clear any overhang from your Camper as well as your windscreen wipers.

While the TK7100 is still very much a current model, this radio is a more advanced unit. But nothing that we would require for our purposes, more for Fleet owners who require fancy signalling and other features. It has a greater channel capacity, but again nothing that we need be concerned about.

Cassie, you have an email icw Kenwood TK-90 HF/SSB radios.
