So as many of you know my bakkie was stolen almost two weeks ago and I seriously doubt that I'm going to get it back

Anyway since this was the first vehicle I have had stolen, I am not sure what the next steps should be. I have heard that I need to deregister it but am not sure what this entails. Any advice for me?
Happy trails
Nic

De-registration is easy, just take the registration papers with you to your registering authority and the SAPS case number. They will give you a form to fill in and that's it.

Bear in mind that if you get it back after that, you will have to go through the whole registration process again, incl. roadworthy test. That said, I doubt you will want it back after this period of time, unless you were not paid out for it.

you could also get it blacklisted on Natis as scrap, so no disc could be issued on it.

If you don't de-register, you will still have to pay the licence fees annually ... your choice. ;-)

If you're not waiting for an insurance payout, I'd leave it registered until the license expires.

If you de-register the vehicle and somehow you get it back, it'll be a mammoth task to get it registered again.

My 2c, not too sure what the law stipulates.
