As a freelance travel writer, I often travel through-out Southern Africa. During our last journey, my Hilux with ALL my camping gear, vehicle accessories, cameras, binoculars, food, drinks, passports, registration docs, id books, driver's licence, wallets, bank cards, cash, even a Thule bicycle rack was stolen. The incident took place on Saturday, 7 Nov 2015, at 5:45 in the morning. It was from a secure, private residence in Die Wilgers, Pretoria, where we stayed overnight with family. It was stolen by real professionals as we could see on CCTV footage that it took them 11 minutes to open the secure gate, disconnect the alarm, start the vehicle without a key, and drove off. The tracking device was recovered within an hour - deserted along the main road near Midrand.

Although the vehicle is a huge loss, the loss of the contents is a much bigger disaster. I post this here in the hope that maybe a member somewhere, somehow may come across some of the goods. The vehicle had unique markings on it, although I accept it was quickly removed.

A picture of how the vehicle looked at the time of the incident, can be seen at: https://www.facebook.com/saramsar/

Hi Johan, this is sad to hear, what's more concerning is how often it's happening.
I do hope you recover your gear and vehicle.

Hi Johan , i am sad to hear about your loss and welcome to the forum.
Two weeks ago I was very lucky to get a conopy for an inport '92 SFA on the forum. Danie , whom I got it from told me thet his bakkie got stolen aswell. I told him about Swelliewatch , a private entity run by an ex police inspector here in Swellendam. I had a word with him and he gave me the name and no. of thier parent partners.
What they do is put up cameras in ' hot spots' and are able to monitor licence plate movements as they pass their cameras. If any body are interested you can contact me as I do not think it is right to put any of their no. Out in the open.

Johan WELCOME to the forum. HOPE you get your stuff back.

HELGAARD - sad to hear that even Swellendam has come to this .... My mom hails from Swellendam, a Coetzer. We know the area well, and would love to remember the quiet plaas dorp.
