What is this thing?

Post by pietpetoors »

Does any of the older generation (or maybe the younger ones) know what this thing is.

Looks like a miniature burner but I have no idea what it is used for.
The canister also have a wick in. I thought the canister was to store the fuel until I saw it has a wick.
The one with screw tops on each side is the canister and picture 3 is the inside of the canister.

I received the soldering set with it, so I assume maybe it might be a small torch you use to heat a small soldering iron or something.

Yes Pieter it is a small blow torch. I think they used benzine in it. My father had one , but I am not sure exactly how it works.

Agree - looks like a small 'blow-torch'. I've seen a variety of these old things but not that one specifically. On those that I have seen there is an attachment that goes on the end which holds an interchangeable, pointed copper 'bit' that is heated by the flame and the tip is applied to the soldering job. Many of them used paraffin in a tank that gets pressurised with a pump, much like the old Coleman lamps. Also cannot quite make out how your one would work.
