In the beginning......I used to have a wooden axe, which eventually broke, then I bought a plastic type axe, but was heavey and sold with my SFA.

Now I believe I have found the right one  Got the large and small version, perfect

Mark daai lyk nou heel nice. Ek sal hom woensdag by jou kom haal!!

:shh:

Ek sal bietjie foto's neem en opsit.

I have numerous axes ... small and large, but personally I have found that a heavy bladed panga is far more versatile. It can cut as deeply as any axe, useful for even the small branches and can even split firewood.

I've seen the guys doing wonders with those pangas in Moz; saved my hide being really stuck in a LC several times!
Nothing like a couple of young mopanis to get one unstuck :D:
I do like to have a good axe with me though

That Fiskars axe is a real great one, have seen them in action.

This is my camp tool. Chews wood like a beaver.

Then there is the odd other option, the Tomahawk. Brilliant, but they are not heavyweights.

Mark, give LAWNSTAR a call. They seem to be the suppliers of the fiskars over here.

http://www.lawnstar.co.za

As for my axe, I have a plain and simple wooden handled Lasher Tools axe :wth:

I have three lasher axes that have seen a really heavy workload ... each must have already had 5 handle replacements, and they're all still in perfect order. They hold an edge very well, even when abused. Nothing wrong with Lasher.

Correct Heinrich, in fact it is identical, Gerber make the identical one, but at more than double the price. Pay for the name....

I carry a normal Lasher Cane knife under the rubber mat in the back http://www.lasher.co.za/main.asp?subcat=4 like the number 61, I think I paid R30 at the hardware store. No worries if it gets lost, rusted or dinged.

They also have some nice Machetes http://www.lasher.co.za/main.asp?subcat=5 and axes http://www.lasher.co.za/main.asp?subcat=17 which I think is good value for money, but it looks like I am a cheapskate if I look at the rest of you guys equipment :? :D

in North Gate by die Dome.

Happy hunting
Martin

Sorry Willem, eintlik bedoel jy lyk nie soos "cheapskate" nie, daarom my Okapi as vergelyking gebruik.

I got a Gransfors Bruks 'Small Forest Axe' (on ebay) - amazing tool, hand made in Sweden by old school blacksmiths...came almost as sharp as my hunting knife, very nice feel and balance...highly recommend this one if you want a serious tool to last a very long time...

Die een is nie te sleg nie: http://www.sharpedge.co.za/index.php?op ... 7&Itemid=4" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

It's my experience that one normally doesn't take time with finesse when utilizing such implements on a trail, meaning that sometimes they are a little abused or even misused. I wouldn't like to suggest a premium grade tool for that, and the Lasher range is more than adequate. Available from your local hardware or Builder's Warehouse. ;-)
