Now what next > I have the Hilux...
I think this is the first question that one asks when you've parked the Hilux in your drive way.
I've come from a background with hiking, caving and climbing that I had to survive on 17kg's (or less) of equipment for 5-8days at a time. Now you have a complete loadbin that you can pack full of stuff, and a lot of it is expensive stuff.
Now gathering upon your combined knowledge, let's try and assist guys in identifying a list of 1ste good purchases that will really add value to camping and overlanding experiences.
Keep in mind cost and practicality.
Let us skip vehicle upgrades for now

3 man pop up tent, R450 at makro my best buy ever can set up camp in couple of seconds, quick and easy, i tend to follow swells up the coast and the last thing i want to do when surfed out is having to the energy to put up a heavy duty canvas that takes tedious amounts of energy.
Second is my fold up braai stand also R100 at makro which folds away on the braai grid when packed away, eleviating the need to look for bricks to keep the grid on

Heinrich, I would say there is quite a difference when it comes to camping and overlanding. But the more rugged of the two, would be the ovelanding as one would have to be self sufficient more often. And so would your gear then change slightly:
Firstly, sleeping arrangement ie tent or RTT
2) Fridge 12v / 240v only!
3) Recovery equipment, snatch strap / tow rope
4) Water storage / availability
5) Shower
6) Kettle, cutlery, spices
7) Braai grid and pots and pans
8) Torch / knife
9) Cable ties
10) Binox / camera
11) First-aid kit
12) GPS / Map
13) Tools, spanner, socket set, etc
14) Tyre repair kit
15) Spare fuses / bulbs / nuts and bolts and washers
16) Gas bottle
17) Axe
18) Gas or lanterns
19) Solar panel
20) Table and chairs
Just off the top of my head, but the list can be long.... :!:

Re: Now what next > I have the Hilux...
adding to Oooooms list:
tire pressure gauge and compressor
second spare
extra fuel capacity (long range tank or jerry cans)
couple of tins of food - just not always possible or practicle to "make" food
TRAVELER - vehicle mods ..... I fitted all my overlanding stuff in my Hilux, and now the rear suspension is hanging low .... a full over landing kit will require some suspension work .....
ISMAIL - please post a pic of your fold up braai. My small braai just does not fit in my rig ....

1. High Lift Jack as this has multiple uses and can and will save you if used with a bit of imagination.

Chris, will post a pic by Monday, you can check out over weekend at Sportsmans also they got a cool one for R220 and you cant set the height also.
true on extended trips I would say a fridge/freezer and dual batt is a must.

Re: Now what next > I have the Hilux...
This is what I believe should be important and probably rank as minimum requirement:
- Good quality/reliabe tyre pressure gauge
- Compressor (at least 72l/min)
- Tyre repair kit
- Water storage capacity (8l per person per day for drinking)
- Good quality cast iron flat bottom pot and kettle you can use over open fire or over gas
- 12v/220v Fridge/Freezer
- Fuel Storage capacity (between your main fuel tank and additional fuel storage you need to be able to cover 1,000km)
- Waterproof tent (choose yourself between RTT of ground)
- Machete (can double as knife or as axe)
