Which vehicle awning

Post by Traveler »

I must say that in two weekends in a row I was again convinced that a vehicle awning is a very good addition and very handy.

Which awning would you recommend? And then of course what size awning??

Mees algemeenste is die 2.5 x 2.5, as jy na 'n 3.0 x 2.5 gaan het 'n probleem he as jy 'n RRT opsit.

I have the 2.5 Howling Moon Sfafari one which is usually mounted on offroad caravans and campers. Bought from Campworld for 1650. It is the one that is in the bag and the bag attach to those alluminium rails used on caravans to slide the tent through. I rivetted the rails to my African Outback roofracks fitted on the cab and canopy. What I enjoy is the fact that it has a alluminium channel piece on the side that you just roll open and the feet drops out, and the side bars clips back onto the bag for support. It is very sturdy but it has anchor ropes to use if you want to. They also sell side sheets for it optionally

So the choice fell on an Ezee Awn 1000.

Fitment was not to difficult. Quality of the Ezee Awn is top notch.

Charles, as quick as you can get 5 poles standing and anchored. I would reccomend 2 people setting it up. The nice thing of it is that you can store it inside the canopy (does not take a lot of space) or leave it in the extrusion and drive with it. I will take some pics later and post it.

Those bag awnings are very nice as well. You use to get a "Swallow tail" awning that attached at the rear in a bag like that and then when open became wider.

Ja I'm looking for an awning that can also be detached from the vehicle and stand on its own - so it can then be used like a gazebo for longer stays. This type of awning looks like it can do what I want and side panels are available. I see Howling Moon also make a similar awning sold at Campworld.

I bought the Tentco bundu safari canopy at their sale this last weekend.

Got home, opened it up and saw it had only 1 guy rope, no pegs. Phoned them on Monday, yes its should have 5 guys and pegs, sorry about that. Said they will send their driver to get missing parts to me. Its a bit far from Krugersdorp to Boksburg, there's no way I'm driving all that way just to get a few pegs and ropes.

Still waiting for the driver though...

Weet enigiemand wat weeg daai Fox of Ostrich ding?

Got home, opened it up and saw it had only 1 guy rope, no pegs. Phoned them on Monday, yes its should have 5 guys and pegs, sorry about that. Said they will send their driver to get missing parts to me. Its a bit far from Krugersdorp to Boksburg, there's no way I'm driving all that way just to get a few pegs and ropes.

Still waiting for the driver though...
The Tentco driver just delivered the missing parts. Excellent service!
Are we there yet?

I see the prices seem pretty reasonable for most of the brands...I'm still thinking that I may try and tailor my own one...although I am not sure exactly how yet? I have heard good reviews on the caravan type connecting one - the make was mentioned earlier and the price is reasonable.
