Kettle

Post by Traveler »

Nadine has put one demand on the shopping list for Dreadnought. Apart from the standard whistle kettle we have, she want's a 12V/220V kettle as well. :shock2: :shock2: :shock2: :shock2:

What now? Where I shop for that?

Hi Traveler, received one of the waeco's as a present some time ago. Only tried it out a few weeks ago - Verdict - ITS USELESS. It took about 20 min to boil 500ml of water. Rather just take a gas cylinder with a kettle. (Sorry Nadine)

Heinrich I must agree with Danie. We also have one of these marvels, and we used it once, while sitting along side the road for almost half an hour with Kaspaas idling waiting for the water to boil... :? :? :? It is as useless as Danie says... nee wat it's MUCH better with gas.

Thanks man, dit sal beslis goedkoper frustrasie wees. Sy moet net nie daai Waeco koffiemaker sien nie, sal hom wraggies vir haarself koop.
Ons gaan Swaziland toe vir 'n paar dae.

Jy moet net laat weet, dan kom maak ons 'n draai/braai.

1k for a kettle !

Heinrich in a previous life time I lectured at a Technikon.

In the one test I included a "surprise question" (using all the principles that formed part of the test). The question was: "Is the following product good? Proove your answer with the relevant calculations." I carried on to give them all the technical specs for a 12V kettle, and asked them to rate this based on boiling water for two cups of coffee ....

The maths pointed out that for close on 25 minutes the kettle would be drawing huge currents !

The one student wrote "YES" and nothing more, when I asked him why he think it is a a good product he said: "Surely a company would not sell a bad product ....." a lengthy explanation on "optimistic advertising" ensued .......

but my worst moment was when a 2nd year class of mechanical engineering students had NO idea of how to change a flat tire ........ the next day they ALL submitted a two page document on how to do it ......

sorry for going off topic, this thread just sent my down memory lane .

Those little 12 V kettles are useless save if you have lots of time and use it for what they are intended. During the early morning hours on the road and U have no time to stop, you fill it up plug it in and forget about coffee for 20 - 30 minutes. After this time SWAMBO gets out the mugs, condense milk etc and pour you a steamy hot cup of coffee or choclate beverage. They actually very lekka little items but only if you drive and have no intentions to stop for coffee.

Yup Shane... horses for courses!

It's not nessecary to fork out loads of cash on the Jetboil... the local suppliers have similar products at a fraction of the price:

http://www.shopmania.co.za/garden-outdo ... ve-1906930

K-Way:

http://www.k-way.co.za/cookset.aspx

All you need to add is a wind screen, something like shown here... that's a nice cooker as well, just pricey:

http://gear.getaway.co.za/gear/atg-mult ... ing-stove/

I quite like this one... just add a wind shield:

http://www.dinodirect.com/stove-camping ... AFFID=1980

And you'll be cooking with gas!
