Yskaste - watter een te kies

Post by Doctor V »

Hier is die make:

National Luna
Waeco
Minus 40
Engel
Kellerman

Good Luck!

As ek vir my een sou gekoop het sou dit die beste een gewees het! :)

Ek sou vir die NL gaan

One that has two seperate compartments and two lids, the one side must be a freezer and the other side a fridge, but the fridge side must be deep enough so that bottles can stand up in it.

Although the most expensive, NL IMO is the best out of the lot. It just seems more rugged too.
If it is to expensive for your blood, why not have a look at the Campmaster (makro).

A split door/compartment unit is nice to have but costs more and is not always a necessity.
A 40-50L fridge can hold a fair amount, a 60 has even more space for a few cold ones. An 80 is large, not only to store stuff but to store as well and that means less space for SWAMBOs' luggage (good for you not goof for her  )

I reckon though they are all fairly decent units and it comes down to personal preference and needs in the end.

I have been investigating this subject over the last few weeks and still havent come to any conclusion yet.

So far i've discovered that:

With the exception of the Engel, all the others have a low voltage cut-off.

The Waeco, NL, Kellerman (same as Snomaster and Campmaster) all use the Danfoss compressor. The Engel uses a different one, which has different internal workings.

The Engel operates on the lowest amps (about 2.5) where as the others use between 3.5 and 5.

The NL apparantly has the best insulation, but is the most expensive of the lot...

The Waeco's hinges tend to wear and break but their customer service is good and they usually replace the hinges no question asked.

The Kellerman is a bit vague, it looks similar to the NL and seems to seal well around the lid. My only grip is the 'speed freeze' switch on the back looks cheap and nasty. Then again for the price what can you expect...

I still havent made up my mind :?

What I did see this weekend is that you can pick up a Kellerman 80L for the same price as a 40L in one of the other brands which make it a very attractive deal :?

I have the Engel 40 litre model, stainless steel. Twice, I have seen guys advertising on forums for a straight swap between their new Engel 80-litre fridge for a smaller Engel 40-litre. I went and compared the two fridges side by side, because it seemed a bargain to me :) but I feel the 80-litre Engel (don't know about the other makes) is just that much too big to lug around comfortably. So I declined the offer both times.

Kellerman (same as Snomaster and Campmaster) all use the Danfoss compressor
Ek sien Makro verkoop 'n 45lt Campmaster vir R4299

MAke sure it is the Danfoss BD35F and not a chinese ripoff as then you are getting ripped off.

My drank en ys gewoonlik in Coleman(s). Dan weet ek dis veilig

...and here it appears again!
A friend of mine made the mistake of buying a too-large fridge/freezer for his vehicle, because it was such a bargain.

He bought this spotless, once-used 80Liter Engel and used it once before he realised it is too big for his vehicle, leaving too little space for anything else, so he is looking for a swop for a 40 Litre in stead, or a sale at R7500, which is about R1000 less than the new price.

I have seen this freezer/fridge combi and it is really spotless and brand-new.

If you are interested, please phone Dougie at 082 452 4942.

Persoonlik sou ek volgende keer vir NL gaan of Engel vol Heinekins.

My opinie
