National Luna 74L vs 90L

Post by Derren »

Hi,

The NL 74L is a double door twin compartment fridge/freezer. The NL 90L is also a twin compartment fridge/freezer but has one outside lid with an internal lid for the fridge compartment.

The 74 and 90 have identical (according the NL website) dimensions and I gather the difference is in the insulation thickness - the 90L has less, 60mm vs 42mm or something like that.

Would that reduction in insulation be that significant? and therefor make the 74L a better choice?

Thanks
Derren

18mm less insulation is quite significant. A lot more heat loss will occur which means your fridge motor will be running for longer periods to keep everything cold. This in turn drains your batteries quicker.... :alvarin: :alvarin:

It would make sense that if the case is the same size, that the insulation would have to be WAY thinner to gain that much in capacity! I have the 74 twin door and have just finished a 3 week tour of Namibia and will never look back! It was for sure the right choice!

Most 90 litres are single door fridges with the 74 having 2 doors. AFAIK it is only recently that they added the 90 TWIN (single door). Whichever NL fridge is branded as a "TWIN" has thinner insulation as it is designed as a weekend type fridge as opposed to a overlanding type fridge, meaning thinner insulation.

Benefit of a twin door is that you don't open the freezer door to get to the fridge AND I can run BOTH compartments as fridge or freezer should I chose to!
