Coleman freezers - some opinion please

As we all know Tjokkie (Rikus) will be moving overseas for good, he says, and has offered me to buy some of his camping goods.

One of those is a Coleman freezer, it looks like 40 ltrs, which I'm interested in, since I'm in the market for one, does anyone have any experience with these? He is willing to lend it to me to test it out cos part of me is skeptical whether it can actually freeze, though he has said it does, and I trust him - reason for the skeptisism is that to me it looks more like a thermo-electric kind, none compressor that is.

What do you guys think of this buy? I offered him R3.5k. Your opinion and advise would be highly appreciated. I did try to get more info on it on the net but was not convincing.

Have you got a pic or model number, as the Coleman I know is a thermo electric model and if the ambient temp is cold enough, yes it will freeze all its contents. Downside is that there is no temprature control that you can set. The only choice is hot or cold.

I attached a photo of what I am referring to.

I had one and it worked well for cooling stuff mostly, but only froze stuff when left outside our trailer overnight.

Do they not draw a lot of amps?More than the compressor types

George I have to agree with you, as they work by peltier process which is a heat/cold transfer process that does not have any compressor - more something that looks like an inverter with its own fan.

Jip.I had an older unit and they work well if you can connect them to a constant power supply. IIRC they draw between 5-6 amps constantly.

Thank you guys for the feedback, Theunis I don't have a model number but it does look like the one you have posted. And also hot or cold, no temp setting. So my guess was right they are thermo-electric.
