Conqueror Courage?

Howzit Guys,

Firstly , compliments of the season to all and sundry!

I am looking at purchasing a trailer in the new year. I know the ideal would be to rent a few trailers and then make my decision however the closest trailer rental company is around 3hrs drive from me.... :(

I have thus far narrowed it down to the courage.... We are a family of five (3 small kids 5 - 8yrs old) and I need to consider something that can accommodate us all as well as be towable by my Troopy (4.2 diesel donkey!) Due to the kids being small I can still get away with an extra ground tent if needs be.

Mostly be used for weekend camping trips with the odd overlanding trip in the future...

Anyone have first hand experience, pro's,cons etc?

Any help will be greatly appreciated!

Shane, I never owned a Conqueror, but they come out tops in my opinion. I looked at a couple of different models and the build quality is great. Its just up to you to choose the right one.

Are you going new or used?

Shane, perhaps speak to Herb (hbannink) on the Community Forum? The Metallian range seems to have earned a good following.

I bought one brand new 6 months ago and very happy with it. The price was just right, not sure now but last I checked it was about R30k more to get all that in a Metalian.

Bed is 2.1 x 2.1m so you could fit all 5 of you; but you have ample room downstairs for a mattress/stretcher as well. I'm busy with a few mods on mine, currently modifying the electrical setup in the nose cone.

The beauty of the Courage is that is a nice base you could modify to your liking, have a look here:

Feel free to PM me if you have ?'s or I can give you my cell #

Thanks Guys.
Stef I will be contacting you.

Uncle E, I have since contacted the metalian guys as well.

Wayne , haven't decided yet... If I should find a decently rigged but used one at the right price I would seriously consider it!

Every February the market is full of "used once" camping gear .....

You should be able to pick up a bargain.

I have a Metalian and is extremely happy with my.Heinz the owner and his staff is very helpfull and always willing to help and do changes to your needs. If you whant to buy for long term , I will seriously recommend Metalian.

I am also a Conqueror fan and fitted the Comfort's tent on my Metalian and I think it's a winnin combination.

You are welcom to contact me for some insight, photos, etc.We have done a few overlanding trips and no problems at all.

I might be a bit more expensive than certan other models, but there is a lot that comes with the trailer as standard and the hole trailer is stainless except for the axle and leaf springs.

Good luck

Yes, he KNOWS his trailers.

AND he really KNOWS his tents !!

Thing is, he IS a camper. So he talks from experience, not from a catalogue.

Shane, I have a number of a guy in Witbank who's Courage I looked at for R70k.
Manie 0 eight two 923 42 four five

2010 model; guy put his own batt with Ctek chargers etc
waeco 60l fridge
big awning if memory serves...

I thought it was a bit pricey given the age but in hindsight it is a damn good buy. One does not need the Conqueror power pack @ R6k. A D250S & a power supply will do nicely with a few odds & ends from 4x4Direct.

Conqueror really put a trailer together well, and the lekker thing is you can mod it as you go to what suits your needs, so you can buy a basic one now and add the bits and bobs you like/need later.

They also hold value pretty well

Shane, have you purchased your trailer yet?
If you have, we (I) would like to know what you decided on.
If not, I would strongly recommend that you look at all the alternatives you can get.
It is much better looking longer and getting what you want (and what meets your needs),
as opposed to the first trailer that comes along at the right price and that looks reasonably right.
Get any prospective deals, to set up and break down the different options, while keeping an eye on the time taken, to put up and break down.
Also look at the effort that is needed to do the putting up and breaking down. This really counts in the long run and when you go over landing.
We seldom stay more than a single night at any destination, so an hour or two, set up & break down, will mean that you only have 4 hours a day for traveling.
You will only be able to do van Zyl's Pass in this this time, and that is eleven km for the day, so set up & break down times are relevant, for this type of travel.
I know that all roads are not the same as van Zyl's Pass, but that was just an example and for you to know that you have only so much travel time in any single day.
Making the wrong decision, can have you selling something after "only used once" advert...

Hi Haboob I did.

It suits us perfectly and has withstood some serious wind storms.

I purchased a conquest from a mate of mine. Thus far we have only done some weekend trips.

There is a little effort involved in pitching and taking down, but acceptable for the moment.

Awesome, the Conquest is a very nice trailer, it was our short list when we were shopping.
