Axle identification

Post by 2yotORnot2yot »

Hello from Mexico! I have a 2009 hilux quad cab 2x4 with the 2.7 and 5 speed. I am trying to figure out what rear axle I have, as I would like to do a gear change in the future. The axle has 10 bolts around the third member. Can anyone point me in the right direction? Thank you!

Welcome Mathew!

It sounds like you have the standard Jap axle and diff .... they liked the third member construction principle. Is there not an identification code on the casing of the 3rd member? Otherwise your local dealership or gearbox & diff specialist should be able to help. They may well be able to also supply you with the crown and pinion for the gearing that you're looking for.

Thanks both of you, I can't climb under the truck right now as my left knee is out preparing for surgery. I was able to use ToyoDIY (awesome site, thank you) but I don't understand where it says what type the axle is.
It says my Characteristics are DLX LA LHD DCB SD 2TRFE HTWC 5F CBU, any help for a noob is greatly appreciated!

Not sure if any of that indicates axle type, .... looks like it identifies where manufactured, body type, trim, left hand drive and some other stuff that I don't know. Sorry, wish I could be more helpful.
