My Hilux became a bit under powered, I decided to overall the 2Y motor and go the EFI Turbo route.

But the 2Y did not like the boost, had head gasket problems all the way. so it is going in to retirement after 600 000km of N/A use and 10000km of Turbo.












Stripping all the unnecessary stuff, and giving it a cleanup.
Changing thermostat, cambelt and tensioners




Eagerly awaiting its new motor.

Had to move the handbrake lever a bit backwards to clear and get the motor mounted closer to the firewall.

Motor fitted, mountings welded, new cam belt on.
Sits nice and low, top of manifold clears bonnet with ample space.

Finished with the oil relocation mod.

I need a LSD diff for this real bad, anyone can point me in the right direction?

You'll do well to fit an LSD with all that torque. Do you guys have a "Mayfair Gearbox & Diff Centre" up your way? Had all round good service from the guys down here .... and I know that they have the LSD carriers in stock for the import Hilux diff.

Hi, feedback, the bakkie is going very strong, still busy with the road map, I get between 6 and 7 km per liter at the moment, scared to run in lean, but I at 16 to 1 AFR atm. on crusing, cold start is a breeze

I sourced a power steering box for this, but my steering shaft is to long.

I am battleling to get the steering wheel off, any tips?

What I did sofar is removed the retaining nut, and tried to pull it off, but it is stuck tight.

Nevermind, got the steering wheel off and installed the PS, must say it was worth it.

Tobie, how long did this project take you from start to finish?

Any problems with overheating? How many km's are you doing?

Hi,

I did not work non stop on this so it took about three months, incl. waiting for parts etc.

I think if you have everything at hand it can be done in a week or two.

No problems with overheating, I have a big aluminum radiator in, and two 10 inch fans, they switch off very shortly after coming on. (I live in a very hot place)

Guys do not remove the air from the cooling system and that is were the heat problems come in I think.

The only mod I did is to move the numberplate down a bit for more airflow as a precaution.

Very Nice Tobie, just for interest sake, how far is the exhaust manifold from your clutch master cylinder?

Ummm, I will need to take that unit out of the storage box and "mockup measure" it for you, as I took it off (Mine is Auto)

Is the handbrake working the disc brake? Or how is the handbrake operated?
