Getting 4X2 unstuck

Hi all,

I've just 'downgraded' to a 4X2 again after many years in a 4X4.

Was wondering - what is the best tips/advice/equipment to carry along in case you get stuck in a 4X2 - especially the Hilux with it's light tail and plenty power on tap.

1. High lift jack
2. Spade
3. 50kg on the back axle or get someone to stand at the back (safely). Rocking action might also help
4. Winch (sparewheel could be buried to act as anchor point)
5. Traction Mats
6. Deflate tyres (carry compressor to inflate)
7. Make-shift 'winch' using spinning back wheel (careful, slow and straight)
8. Buddy in a 4X4 although getting stuck might be unplanned so make sure you have reception and contact numbers handy

Any other tips we can add to the list that might help others?

Thanks

Thanks
I saw this trick on DSTV. 2 guys in a Jeep.
I'm just worried that the strap will slip off the tyre, but it worked out well for them.

1, 2 & 5 are good options to carry with you. If your 2x4 doesn't have a locker, you can use your hand-brake to act as a 'fiddle-brake', but I wouldn't recommend doing this regularly. ;-)

Weight on the back will aid with traction. Deflating tyres wiĺl also help. The strap trick on the back wheel can work but you need to do it very slowly and straight. Take a 1 2 and sand tracks and a buddy with a 4x4.

A few 114x38x1500mm SAP will help when you have lifted the truck with the highlift.

This is from an old discussion I had with Cassie here on the forum:

I have done this in the past, if Im stuck in deep mud.
Even on my old 4x4 SFA with no difflock it works wonders.
Besure to use a strong log or "wooden dropper" and rather on steel rims than mags.
Depends on the seriousness, and if your in an area where there is no anchor.

Firstly it gains alot more traction, but the main positive of this it lifts the diffs and under carridge from the mud.
Breaking the sucktion of the mud.
