Riaan,
Have you managed to fit your upgrade kit as yet and if so what was the end result? Hopefully a major improvement.

Wynand, yes, fitted. But I still need to bed them in, according to strict instructions from Powerbrake. Still have about 200km's to do, but the Lux is not running now, waiting for parts.
Will get to it during next week, and then I'll report back.

I received my discs yesterday. Somehow I thought they would be ventilated discs
I started to install them, but soon I realized that I will have to service the whole lot. The grease at the bearings flows like hot syrup,so I will replace everything. Nice job for a monday

Mark & Cassie... they did get stock in last year, not sure whether they still have stock though. I can only reiterate that I am very happy with Bulldog's brakes still, have no issues with them whatsoever!

Email them and let us know their reply, please.

To be honest he just said that there was a drop in price.
 I THINK he said R2370.00

I apologise if this is not correct as I have the memory of a "siff" that's been used for target practice.

But am 100% sure that the price has gone down

I got an email from them. The cost is R2730.30 + R39.90 for postage.
I thought it was a vented disc that replaces the OEM but he informed me it has some grooves in. You can also use their pads: Bendix Ultimate FRONT pad set only - DB288HD @ R678.30 VAT incl if you dont want to change the discs.
Francois said they will still make a big difference in your braking power.

I got this reply from Leon regarding a kit for my van:
Leon from Powerbrake wrote:Hi Cassie,

I'm assuming your Hilux is the petrol engined model, not the diesel? Some diesel models used a different brake system to the petrol models.

The kit consists of a pair of (front) Powerbrake All Terrain Series high-performance slotted discs as well as a set of (front) matched high-performance Bendix Heavy Duty brake pads that have been extensively tested by us to provide the maximum performance and durability, when used in conjunction with the discs in the kit, on the car in question. The kit will offer strong, quiet, fade-free braking and excellent disc and pad life. You can expect a substantial improvement in brake performance, with far better fade resistance during emergency stops or mountain descents as well as improved wet weather braking. In terms of durability, you should get very good disc and pad life. Our kits utilize the standard calipers on the vehicle and fitment is as simple as a normal disc and pad change. There are no modifications to the vehicle.

Copied below is an email sent me from Leon, at Powerbrakes:

---

I just wanted to give you some feedback on these kits since we last corresponded.

After the first batch we produced September last year, we literally sold out on the kits within 2 days. We then cast a 2nd batch towards the end of 2010 which was also sold out immediately. At this time we noticed that many owners of SFA Hilux's that were requesting a brake upgrade were in fact running a Lexus V8 under the bonnet. This obviously puts serious strain on the brake system which is marginal even with the standard Hilux engine. Although our regular All Terrain upgrade kit would provide a noticeable improvement over OE brake parts, we felt it wasn't ideal for those models fitted with the powerful Lexus engine. We have thus put together a serious upgrade kit to suit SFA owners who run Lexus engines. This kit still uses our same All Terrain slotted performance discs, but instead of matching them with the Bendix heavy Duty pads, we match it to ultra high performance CCA compound pads from Endless Japan. The CCA pads do raise the price of the kit, but it would provide unmatched braking performance and pad life compared to any other brake kit worldwide. Due to demand we have cast a 3rd batch of discs and will make them available with both the Bendix Heavy Duty pads as in the past, as well as with the new Endless CCA pads. Below is some more details on the CCA pads, including full kit pricing. For reference I have included the latest pricing on the original All Terrain kit with Bendix pads as well.

Endless CCA:

Endless CCA is a Ceramic Carbon Metal compound manufactured by Endless Japan. Endless are a high-performance and race pad manufacturer who’s products are widely considered to be of the very best that money can buy. The Endless customer list includes a large number of leading GT, Touring Car, Endurance, Open-wheel, WRC and Rally Raid teams worldwide. While Endless pads are expensive, their unmatched performance and wear life have earned Endless an extremely strong following in high-level performance and race circles around the world. The Endless CCA compound is designed to offer unrivaled performance for high-performance street vehicles. CCA provides a particularly firm pedal feel and very strong initial 'bite'. Friction levels remain very strong across a wide temperature range. The CCA compound will offer substantially upgraded brake performance from cold to disc temperatures of 550 deg C, while being able to handle peak temperature spikes of up to 650 deg C for short periods. As with all Endless Ceramic Carbon Metal compounds, pad life is class-leading, often outlasting competitive performance street pads by 2-3 times, which offsets the purchase price considerably. Also important is that the CCA compound is kind to discs, hereby reducing long-term running costs.

Mark, probably double the price of the normal pads which are pretty effective oin their own. Please email Leon (or Clive Murphy) and ask them, I would also be interested in knowing.

I have no ties with these chaps at all other than being thoroughly convinced that there is nothing better for a SFA. After fitting their "All Terrain" kit conversion to Bulldog, the difference in braking was simply incredible, I became an instant convert! :)

Hy briek baie skerp.

jammer, iets belangrik vergeet.

Are there anybody (since Oct 2011) that bought a set of these?
Seriously looking for a upgrade, past weekend we had heavy rain, and I could not make a sharp turn. :o: Went straight down a small decline. Nothing serious, but could have been a different story on a 4x4-trail. :blackeye:

Put in cruiser disc's and pads up front, they work much better. You use the 2.7 hilux calipers .

It is actually saver to have drum breaks at the rear than discs on load carrying vehicles.

Hi Guys -
Yes - that is basically what Powerbrake said to me.
Also my apologies - i said earlier that they DID have a REAR disc set for SFA's - i was wrong - they do not have one - only front.

FYI - a copy of Francois Duigan's email to me below - he was very helpful:

**
Hi Jim

We do not manufacture a rear kit for the SFA.

We would recommend leaving your rears as is (ie not upgrading them). The manufacturer has carefully set the brake balance on the vehicle (remember that the fronts do the majority of the brake work - anything up to 85%. The harder you brake, the less pressure is sent to the rear) and increasing the brake torque at the rear can lead to an overall decrease in braking efficiency and worse still, the car can become unstable under braking. So, we recommend that you leave the rears as is - ensuring that they work correctly as intended - and concentrate your upgrading efforts at the front.

If you have poor braking, fitting rear discs will not improve the matter, since the rear wheels are unloaded under braking (i.e. weight is transferred forward) and will do very little in terms of stopping the vehicle in a hard braking situation.

Regards
Francois Duigan
