any thoughts as to what has caused this before i go and murder the guy tomorrow morning?

Jonathan,

Ask him if he swapped out the starter motor with the original one. The Chinese starter motor has a nipple on the end that catches against the bell-housing, the standard Toyota one does not have this nipple.

ok it looks like the guy used the engine mounting brackets from the new engine. i can assume that the new ones are slightly differently shaped. i'll try persuade hime to change them over to the originals tomorrow... :|

Ok, when we did mine, we used the original Toy starter motor because of the Chinese one being about a cm longer than the Toy starter motor and it wouldn't fit without snagging.

When I rebuild my motor, I bought pirate engine mounts, because the one was sheered right off. On installation of the motor I realised these pirate mounts were not the same as the originals, so that the motor would not sit right, so I rimmed the bolt holes to correct this, I am however having the original mounts reconned so that I can use them again. The OE Toy ones are just too expensive!

yea it seems that the new engine mounting is a bit big on the passanger side. they had to use the old one on the other side. it seems the answer is to take the mount to an engineering place and get them to shorten it a bit for me... for the moment it can stay as is...

I do recall the mechy saying that he used one of my old engine mounts and I think the other mount as was supplied with the engine. Never paid too much attention at the time, but he seemed to get it right.
