Fuel pump not priming when ignition is switched on

Post by gjubber »

I currently experiencing a "problem".
When I turn on the ignition the fuel pump does not start up for a second or so to help starting (prime). This in result in that the engine battles to start but when the pressure (44 PSI) is high enough it starts fine....

Where can I start looking? Is it a relay or electrical problem?

My guess is it would be a relay. If it was electrical the pump won't work at all and the motor will not start at all. But I'm no mechanic.

One should check the pressure before you start the engine, a min of 2.5 bar. The relay will be in the fusebox under the bonnet. It should be id on the fusebox cover. Just for interrest, check the EFi fuse also, sometimes it could rust a bit and cause problems.

There is no pressure when I turn on the ignition, the pressure only rises when the enjine is cranked.....and when the enhine is runninng the pressure is normal. I've also checked the fuses and the relay(FSI relay) and seems to be fine....

If the fuel filter is new. All remains is the Fuel pump in the Tank.
