Help, Diesel in a Petrol Hilux

Post by Big D »

Hi all

Got my Hilux yesterday, and filled it up with petrol. (What I thought was petrol, but the attendant filled it up with diesel). Drove aprox 1 km and she died on me. Smoking and wont idle, and not enought power to pull away. So I drained the tank Diesel and filled up with petrol. But there were still some diesel left in the tank that now mixed with the petrol. Nows she smoking and very underpowered.

Could the diesel cause any damage to the engine? Any other advice?

Also a very BIG thanks to Louis from 4X4 Megaworld Menlyn for helping me. He towed me all the way back to the petrol station, and helped get the car running again. :D

Other than a smokey bandit, I don't think anything will happen to the motor as you have drained the offending liquid. Due to the fact that diesel need high compression to ignite, your lux wont run on it anyway. Had this happened the other way (petrol into diesel), you may have been in for an expensive bill

You could flush the entire system to try get rid of it but that would be costly, with the petrol price being what it is.

Should not be a problem and maybe a good idea to replace the petrol filter... :?:

Go back to the garage and demand they pay for you to have the tank washed out completely and refilled with clean petrol.

I have heard from someone that after your motor runs normal again. You need to do a oil change.
