The 'Two Corsa fans on 3RZ radiator mod"
Hey guys/gals , decided to do a short write up on this conversion as there is little info on the forum.
Right, first things first : "I are boer" so excuse the bad Inglisjh!
The dimentions of the fans are 290mm (h) and 350mm(b).
The 3RZ radiator is 550mm (h) x 550mm(b) that is with the tanks(top & bottom) included.
Little things I realised through the build.
- There is only one Corsa LITE aircon fan with a cowling. It seems to be the 2003 -2005 model, but remember its the LITE!
- The success of this conversion is dependent on how close(flush) you get the fans to the radiator. (Between 1-2mm gap.)
- Remember to put some sort of self adhesive foam strip between the cowling and the radiator 2-3 mm thick, otherwise the constant vibration of the fans will damage the little "fins" of the radiators.
- You wil have to remove all the brackets from the radiator and build your own. There are two reasons for this, firstly to get the fans as close as possible to the radiator, and secondly to get the fans fixed to the radiator.
- Relocation of the Aircon Rad is a must if you are going with a slightly longer enjine. (7MGE & 2JZ).
- Cutting the font end of your van to accommodate the fans is going to be necessary.
- If you do cut the front end (thus weakening the bonnet hitching point), I will advise you to install "bonnet pins" otherwise the bonnet might fly open!
Okay , this is what material I used for the bracket
- 2m x 20mm angle iron (2mm thick)
- 6 x 6mm bolts with lock nuts.
- 5m x 2.5mm selfadhesive foam strip.
- 2 x 50mm x 20mm flatbar
- 2 x 100mm x 500mm flatbar
- little bit of black paint
The angle iron is for the bracket that fixes the fans to the radiator. (This will differ between models and makes)
The bolts for fixing the fans to the bracket
The flat bar is to fit the whole "shebang" to the front end. (This will differ between models and makes)
Cost sheet on January 2013
The fans where R650 each. Mine are OEM GM fans (I included a picture with the part number.)
The 3RZ radiator was R850 but this was pirate. (Toyota OEM is a joke!)
I had all the metal bits already, and the foam strip was R 19.50.
And finally the end product!:
If you need any more dimentions or have any questions, feel free to ask!
Edit:
I'll have too cred's too Mark Gunta and Everdt Bulletjie-3!
This is actually Marks design!
Thanx guys!
