Sal more haar oppie Highway vat en jou laat weet.

Hi All,

At last the first Kaapie EFi conversion went for the big dyno... but before we get to those results... a small story...

About 1.5 years ago I had my 4Y engine rebuild by 'professional'... the engine never performed(51kw  ) at all after the rebuild, turned out the valve timing was out 2 teeth... with the carb on and valve timing fixed... here is the dyno chart(78kw  Carb, Brospeed Cam - Exhaust, 245 Tyres ):
DynoSet1.pdf
(91.59 KiB) Downloaded 364 times
Then due to some other issues and errors on the engine rebuild by the 'pro's', I decided to rebuild it myself Jan this year...

On Monday I had it dyno by Izak at DynoTech... vehicle spec - 2.2 EFi, re-degreed brospeed cam and exhaust, cold air induction mod, 33inch MT Kumho's... the first set of results are from my attempt to road dyno it... besides the increase in power, the fuel consumption has improved. Bennie she is producing 69kw(93bhp) on the wheels... and the results...

Hi George,

I did note that both maps state: Run 1 Before... does that mean that this is pre dyno stats? Maybe they gave you the wrong readings?? The figures are respectable, @78kw and 197nm torque... the big questions is how does she run now??

I did not gain any extra power after Robbi finished tuneing.Your map was not to bad.My motor was running to lean and it was pinging and that is now sorted. Another interesting point is that Robbi says his dyno machine is very conservative. :?

George

I gave your maps a quick over and I did not see anything funny, except at -0.86Bar at 4000 RPM the value is set to 250m/sec wheras the fields below and above is set to 0m/sec. I do not know if the dyno guy just missed that point (most likely explanation) or if they do it for some funny reason I do not know about.

I do not know if you know how the fields work but for the benefit of others let me explain. Obviously as your engine speed goes up so you will reach higher values on the map (both the Fuel and RPM map) Your Manifold Absolute Pressure or Throttle Position (if your system is set up to use throttle position switch) will move the set point in the engine map to the right. So at idling the set point the ECU uses will be towards the bottom and the left and as you step on the accelerator the set point will move right (based on how deep you press the accelerator) and move up as the RPM increases.

It is normal to set all values at the far left ( -0.99 and -0.86) above 1750 RPM to zero. You will reach that set point in your map whicht is set to 250m/sec, if your engine is revving at 4000RPM and you take your foot off the accelerator, like when going down hill. If you reach that point in the map you might experience a slight backfire. If that happens simply set that value to 0 as well.

Ps... so my mouter is doing a fair bit of pop-popin when I lift my foot; is that a case of changing the values to Zero :?:

Hi Deon,

It's all relative! I've got 33's, running EFi 2.2, I get about 7.5 on the open road at 110km(odo speed)... if I drive a little faster the fuel consumption drops quickly!

Offroad the 33s are great!

Rich

Check your map on the laptop next to you on the seat when it happens and see where on the fuel map are you getting it.

Haal you bladvere uit in sit hulle onderstebo in.

Dit alles sal jou so 13-15 km/l besorg as jy baie mooi ry.

Of 'n makliker opsie is koop 'n Jonway scooter

Nope - didn't get the chance yet to drive Mufasa, but I am like a small child hearing an Ice cream van.

Bennie still has to do a bit more of his magic, and Louis has to sort out a whining diff for me first.

Hi Guys,

I struggled with the 4Y in my 1991 SFA Hilux due to high wind resistance and 33" tyres. At any hill it would slow down to agricultual speeds. I was not happy with that but loved the vehicle anyway.

After much pondering and re-allocation of funds (!) I went for a Lexus V8 conversion and I'm very glad I did.

It's like having a new vehicle. As it's my only vehicle I use it on the road a lot. I'm upgrading to 35" inch tyres cos it will be better off-road and also so that the gearing will change making first gear (it's a manual box) longer and more useful. There will be less wheel spin as well!

I didn't have a dyno done on the 4Y but the V8 had one, after fitting a larger bore exhaust system and cone air filter to help it breathe better.

Tapster wrote:

You must reconsider that, cone air filters are only good to filter out 19mm and bigger stones, birds, very large insects and small pedestrians, as for dust it goes right through. Offroading dust will eventually kill your engine with a cone filter, rather get yourself a bigger cyclonic filter.

Jaco

Ek kon haar even hardloop to waar die naald teen die trip meter se reset pin vassteek.
