I don't know anymore

Post by Ogre »

Hello all, I really need advise please.
My bakkie is as lazy as a municipality worker, heavy on juice, it has a flat spot, it has got a Fengnei carburetor,
I saw somewhere that I must fit an original 1800 Golf carburetor, but now I don't know where I saw it. When I brake hard there is this blowing noise in the engine bay, sounds like a puff adder and the bakkie doesn't brake at all, first the brakes used to bind up, then I fitted a new pipe from the manifold to the brake booster and since then that noise started every time I apply the brakes, but at least the brakes is not binding anymore. What for ever shall I do to get my bakkie working right again and getting rid of that flat spot. Any advise asseblief.

Are you sure you don't have an air leak on that new line you installed. This will influence braking and your idling (not sure about when the engine is revving)

Also check the brake booster itself for any leaks (rust holes).

When you say lazy and heavy on juice, what are you comparing it to? The SFA's are notoriously thirsty and somewhat sluggish. What motor does it have - 2.2 or 2.4?

You could try get a second hand original Nikki carb for the motor, have it refurbished and fit that rather than the golf one if you intend to do any incline driving (the golfie carb will flood or starve). ;-)
When your road comes to an end ...... you need a HILUX!.

Engine off, pump the brake and hold, then start the engine. Brake pedal should go down a bit. Then your booster is operating correctly.

I think some vehicles have a non return valve in the pipe running from the manifold to booster, if yours have it, did you fit it to the new pipe?
