Level -it shock spacers fitted / vibration / noise 4.0 v6

Post by justaguy »

Hi guys , this is one for the suspension guru`s , im not a big off road driver do the dunes now and then but nothing rough , so instead of expensive suspension i opted for new shocks all around and a WR-Offroad level-it spacer kit for the front as the hilux always sits nose down (D4D shape) , I opted for the spacers that gave me a 50mm lift in the frond and it leveled the lux out nicely but now what i find is that between 50 - 60 kph i hear a noise and feel a slight vibration on the foot rest but if i just lightly pull my 4x4 lever back just slightly (not engage) it goes away , if i release the lever again the noise and vibration comes back , it only seems to be noticeable between 50 - 60 kph.

Im guessing that the side shaft might be affected by an angle change , any advice ???? i don't want to do damage......

If i lift the rear using say a load hog spring would it correct the angle ?

Good advice appreciated.

Thanks

David, I'm not a fundi here but am guessing that the 50mm lift has increased the CV angles to a point that you now have the issues.

One of the real experts will be able to shed some more light when they see this.

David did you measure the height before and after the lift? What shocks did you fit? It might be just that that the spacer lift 50mm and the shock also lifted a bit (depending on what shocks you fitted) and the angle on the CV is to big. I would say it is best to get a pro to have a look at it for you before you damage anything.

Hi Guys.
Was the alignment done after you did the spacer lift?
Balancing could also be affected?
This does alter the drive line angle but im sure the alignment is out.

Hi Guys

Yes the wheel alignment was done , in fact it has been done twice as the other day i had ball joints and tie rod ends replaced and the rechecked the alignment.

The kit i had fitted was a wr off road level it kit that gave me a 50mm lift in the front , the shock i fitted were monroe gas magnums...........

Hi is your vibration problem resolved and can you tell me how. Had leveling kit fitted yesterday and allignment done. And when i drove away could immediately feel the vibration on the brake pedal aswell as on footrest. Could hear tyre noise aswell. All this happens between 40 and 60kmh.
Had allignment checked again next day. They said maybe cv worn. Drove to toyota and they suspect tyres.
Have new general grabber at3 on with 150km done on them now.
Was told to drive 500km and see if problem goes away.
Any help would be apreciated.
Note. Looks like rear tyres was not balanced properly. Both rear tyres have about 10 weights on them. Dont think this could be the issue because i didnt feel the vibration before the leveling kit. Bakkie has got 82k km on clock. D4d dubble cab 4x4.
