2006 4.0 V6 battery light

Hi guys, been a while (like the new look).

My Vigo's battery light won't switch off - been like that for 3 days now (suspect alternator). Everything is running fine - starts easily etc. I have an appointment for its 190 000 km service on 5 November. Should I rather have someone look at it before then, or is it safe to wait?

Can be a faulty alternator. With car running, see if there is any charge from alternator. Might be a diode.

Do you have a volt-meter ?

Is it still charging at about 13,8V ? If not you will run the battery low and get stuck at some point ....

I will test it tonight and sommer put it on the Benton for good measure.

Just be careful that she does not go into limp mode. It happened to me on the highway nogal! The regulator packed up and the battery voltage dropped to the point where the limp mode kicked in.

OK, so the multimeter test indicated that she is not charging at all. Will keep her on the Benton every night until the 5th when she goes in for her 190 000 km service. Should be OK?

Must say I'm considering to have the alternator checked by someone other than the agents - Simply from a cost perspective. Any comments on this welcome.

Does anybody know whether the alternator for a Vigo 4.0 V6 is the same as that of the D4D?

Hijacking my own thread: While trying to open the closed unit in the fuse box (which I shouldn't have done), I accidentally broke off a piece of the transparent cover (That is the long closed unit that contains a number of fuses, like the alternator one for example). Can I replace just this cover? Where can I find one (except from the dealers)?

Jarus bear with this one ...

The alternator for a standard motor differs from that of a turbo driven motor - at least there is an extra "item" on the back of the alternator of a turbo motor.

A standard motor use the vacuum of the inlet manifold to provide suction to the brake booster.

With a turbo engine the manifold is under positive pressure, thus no vacuum to assist the brakes.

In many cases a small vacuum pump is fitted to the back of the alternator to provide this vacuum.

The electrics may well be the same though.

I don't think they are the same. Toyodiy lists a different part number for the two and the D4D has a 70 Amp Alternator and the 4l V6 has a 80 Amp alternator.

OK, so I went to someone closer to my house, so I won't get feedback from the original guy, but the people who refurbished mine say they are different.

Hi everyone

My alternator light on my 2007 hilux is also on. It happened once before a few months ago but then went off by itself again.

I have a dual battery system with a ctek dual 250. The main battery measures 13.8v when the vehicle is on and 12.6 when off. So I can't figure out why the alternator light is on?

Any ideas.

The light is only there to show that the reg/rec is working apparently, doesn't do a very good job tho! When the alternator in my 07 died I had no light come on just a god awful whining noise! I replaced pulleys and tensioners trying to get rid of the noise but turned out the alternator had a dead diode in the reg which made it whine. Strange thing was too it was still charging ok at operating temp. The alternator in the lux is utter rubbish! I was glad when mine died cos now I have an upgraded unit which pumps out 14.5v all day long!
