SFA intermittent wipers

Hi all

Ever since I've had Rooies, the intermittent setting on the wipers hasn't worked. The stalk seems to work fine for all the other positions and the washer works too, which leads me to think that the intermittent timer is at fault. Does anyone know where it is located?

Nic I might be wrong but I think it would be easier looking for a other stalk than trying to repair the intermittent timers on your old one.

As I recall the intermittent timer is electro-mechanical and is located on the reduction gear assembly of the wiper motor itself. I vaguely recall stripping and cleaning the contacts of one of these units, but can't be 100% it was for the SFA - it did however rectify the problem. The other thing could be the relay itself (not sure where that's located).

The stalk switch can be removed and carefully de-constructed to clean / repair those contacts and I've done that before as well. (A new replacement at the time was over R800). See here ..... viewtopic.php?f=3&t=35702&p=431064" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

Ya, I'm relatively sure that it's not the stalk. I'll go dig in the loom with the multimeter and see if there is current in the wire from the stalk

Maybe one of you could do me a favour, run the wipers in intermittent and see if you can hear the solenoid opening and closing, that might narrow down a location somewhat

I would, but My SFA is in the shop at the moment. Hopefully someone else will oblige. :winkx:

It could be there - sound sometimes has a way of misdirecting one to it's source. The kick-panel is only two screws, so it's an easy starting point. I know that the flasher unit is behind there, so maybe the wiper relay is there as well. :think:

So I finally took the whole wiper switch apart:

Image

The light green with red, the blue with black, the blue with red and the black wire all lead from the switch into the loom. The light green with red only goes as far as the plug under the steering column where it ends in the female side of the plug, with no corresponding wire on the male side of the plug.

At least I know that the intermittent unit is not in the switch now.
