Injectors

Post by Defib »

Today I was told my 3.0 D4D's injectors are failing.

2007 model with 160 000 on the clock.

I have been told it's rather premature and that I may have a leg to stand on with Toyota ZA

I have been quoted R30k for the job of replacing etc.

Any input is highly appreciated

warrantee expired at 5 years and/or 90 000km, unless you took out an extended warantee.

sadly this IS the weakpoint of the D-4D.

Personally I wouldn't get Toyota to do the job. There are many excellent diesel shops around and the injectors themselves cost around R14k for a OEM set. So Toyota would be charging you some R15k for a simple replacement job. That's a rip-off.

Ask the guys on the forum to suggest a reliable diesel shop in your area!

In fact I see you're in Table View... contact Allan Venter(Mr Hilux Cape Town) for advise on the best route to go.

160k isnt premature! Some do get way more but most dont last that long especially being an 07. If they r still the original ones then they wont be the updated version. I've seen plenty fail with less than a third of those ks! Make sure you get the updated injectors and seat washers too. Also tell them to make not, if any of the seat washers have been leaking then you'll need to check your oil pick-up screen in the sump. Has been a massive problem here with toyota doing a recall on a stack of utes. Once them seats start leaking it doesn't take long to rite off the block!!

If you do a search on injectors you will see a couple of posts discussing the issue. I am not aware of a single instance of seats leaking in SA. I did all the research and ultimately it turns out that replacing the injectors with new ones is the best option as the reconditioning of the injectors (whilst done regularly) sometimes gives issues.

It is not the hardest of jobs to do but you need the Toyota scanner or similar software such as Techstream to recode the new injectors to the ECU. It is also important to make sure the seats are clean (i.e. that there are no carbon deposits on the seats - which is achieved by very lightly scraping the seats with a reamer coated with grease) and to replace the injector seat washers. They will supply new seat washers with the injectors. It is also highly recommended to replace the 5 injector leakage return pipe combination washers (it is two aluminium washers connected with a tab that sit on either side of the banjo connectors on top of each injector and on the cylinder head) as you will not know if the old ones are leaking until you find your oil being thinned by diesel. It is possible to check for leakage on the rail with specialised equipment.

I agree with taking it to a diesel shop. Make sure that the diesel filter housing is clean and also that you replace the diesel filter when changing the injectors.

Seems like injector failing is more prominent in pre 09 Hiluxes

Seen a few 09+ models with high milage on original injectors .

Mine is almost on 180k with original injectors and according to techstream all four perfectly in spec .
