2.7 IFS advice needed

Post by Ultred »

Hi Guys and girls...
Not been active for a while now...my bad.

So Tasper has decided to start being difficult all the way out here in the DRC (where spares are oh so readily available :naah: )
He does not want to start directly if been standing for to long. I can crank the engine till just before the battery dies out before he takes.
But once going, no issues. Start him again after a few minutes, no issues. Only thing I can think is fuel is gone...but where does it go and why. Am I loosing pressure at the throttle body?

Please, please, please....I know how to 4x4, I don't know how to mechanic. :blushing:

Sounds like you are on the right track with your suspicions in that it's a fuelling problem. From what you say, it's really only with a cold start, so the cold start valve may be the culprit.

Most HP fuel pumps have a built in non-return valve and with time and use, they become a little tired, so fuel pressure drops off a little quicker after shutting off but this is not usually a problem since the pump immediately brings the pressure back up again as soon as the ignition switch is turned on. On the other side of the fuel circuit however is the pressure control regulator which does as it's name suggests and maintains the required pressure in the fuel rail, with the excess returning to the tank. If this regulator valve is tired and does not maintain optimal pressure, it exacerbates a cold start valve problem.

That all said, from what you have described, the cold start valve is where I would start.

Thanks Andy, as always eager to assist. Appreciate that...
You don't by chance have a part number on both those items, i don't even know what to look for.

Mike, I don't really know the 2.7 motor (3RZ) and don't have part numbers.

Just a quick thought .... if you look at the throttle body, make sure that there are no loose electrical connections on any of the components (the cold start valve will be one of them). It might not be the valve itself but just a faulty connection.
