No 4x4 - Front wheels not locking

Post by cecilgreeff »

Please help,

3.0 D4d D/C 2014
Toyota removed the gearbox & after I got my bakkie back, the 4x4 would not engage. The gear lever changes, but the front wheels doesn't lock, neither does the light on the dash come on. Shaft from transfer case is engaged, cant move it by hand.
Is there a plug(switch) on the gearbox or transfer case that can cause this, or a fuse or solenoid/relay?
I checked all plugs and all looks connected.
Can the ADD actuator be the problem? Not exactly sure how it works, either by vacuum or electronic.

The add system is known for getting water in it and playing up. Though if it's doing it only since toyota had the box out then I'd bet they left a plug off the transfer case. Not sure which one it is but there is one to tell the 4x4 ecu that 4wd has been selected and it then enguages the front diff.

Transfer box switches will cause it not to engage. Slide under the Hilux and check the plugs on the transferbox switches

In the link posted above you can see a photo of the ADD. That is a good place to start. I would inspect all the wiring going to the gearbox and make sure that all the plugs are clean and make a proper connection.
