No reverse gear!

Post by docbos »

Hoo boy.
My first post here. Any boffins with an answer?

Bought a 2013 Hilux 4x4 DC early May from CMH Nissan Waterfall. They sent it to Toyota Hillcrest for 140K service. It has full service history with toyota that's why they sent it there. When I got it I had Toyota test the injectors. All good and totally in spec BUT!! gear box whine. Contacted CMH. Kudos to them. No quibles. New reconned box with genuine Toyota parts. Installed this morning. Took 3 1/2 hrs. Watched most of the process. Very neat job . Time to test.
1st through to 5th all good. 4h and 4 low and diff lock all good. Lowered hoist and put in reverse...no reverse and no reverse lights.. Phoned gear box specialist...heard lots of swearing from the phone from a distance. Had a good chuckle. Workshop manager who is highly qualified Toyota mech put in it in reverse while engine running and clutch not depressed...nothing.
Must be in the box. What could it be?
He's highly embarrassed but it's not his fault.

Welcome Marcus!

No gearbox expert either, but it would appear that the guys that did the re-con omitted the reverse gear or selector. The swearing I can understand, because it all has to come out again and replaced with another box (if one is available) or that one has to be drained and opened to rectify the error. Sounds like there is going to be some sports. :D:
When your road comes to an end ...... you need a HILUX!.

Lol
Thanks Mud Dog
That's what the mechie said as well.He said he can feel nothing when putting it in reverse.Serious dropping the ball on the gearbox specialists guys. That's why he was audible at a distance from the mechie's phone. I've learnt with age not to have a meltdown as mistakes do happen. I feel sorry for who ever's responsible.
How they repair/sort out the problem will be the test.

Problem solved. New gearbox put in. Running nicely and quiet!
Had no feed back about the first box but I suppose it will take time.
