EGR cooler/valve

Post by docbos »

Hi all.
Some help please. Does the 3L D4D in my Hilux have an EGR cooler/valve? My VW bus has it and I have been advised by an agent to have the cooler removed as they give trouble. I don't want the same problem on the Hilux. I think some-one said it does not have one. Is this true?

Many thanks

Howzit and welcome Marcus. The d4d does have an egr valve and many owners have them blocked off.I in fact have a 2,5 d4d and had the valve blocked off as soon as I had purchased my 4x4 about 3 years and 100 k kms ago.
The norm is to make up a gasket on the flange without the centre flow hole opened.
Use the thin metal type of gasket material used on engine gaskets.

So I just have the EGR blocked off. On the engine side or the exhaust side? if that makes sense.
Does it have a cooler that needs to be bypassed?

Thanks Tony

No Hilux only has an EGR valve just leave it.

On the VW they ciculate engine coolant trough the EGR system to cool the gas. This is usually where water gets into the engine . I have a friend sitting with his Amaroks engine that got damaged due to the EGR cooler letting water in.

To be fair he made it 400k km
