Auto trans cooler pipes

Post by auquhollie »

Guy's,

Looks like i have split a cooler pipe coming from my Auto trans to the cooler. Does anyone know firstly what connection it is on either end of the pipe and secondly a place to purchase new (without going to Toyota).

I had thought of just replacing with a hydraulic hose (im a hydraulic mechanic). Maybe give a cooler temp if i can get a better flow rate.

Cheers lads

I don't see why hydraulic hose shouldn't work .... ATF is used in many hydraulic applications, so the hose rubber should be compatible. I would just make sure that the hose is tucked out of harms way so that it cannot get snagged when off-roading.
When your road comes to an end ...... you need a HILUX!.

Mud dog,

Thats right, my thoughts too. We use ATF in our Hydraulic units so compatibility shouldn't be an issue. with a 3/8" hose you would likely get better flow rate too.

Do you happen to know what thread type/size the cooler and gearbox side of the pipes are ?.

Sorry Adam, can't help with the thread sizes, but hopefully someone here can. Good luck. :winkx:

Hi Adam.
(Cannot remember clearly so giving info off-hand on mine - A series TOY)
I used 8mm hose for over-fit flush.
They use steel tubing flanged at the ends and then elbow tube unions.
(Threading for TOY 32921C)
Oil rated rubber hosing at the cooler ends with Corbin type hose clamps .
Pressure is low-ish and flow rate is in the order of +/- 3-4 L/min at idle.
Hydraulic hose should be fine, but just take note that the flow rate is determined by
the transmission oil pump and not by the diameter of the piping.
Do not use copper tubing.
Hope this helps.
