Vigo Automatic Shift Noise

Post by Cinco »

A friend of mine is keen to buy a Hilux and sent me the following message:
2015 3.0D4-D automatic, 4x2 with difflock.
This is an intermittent fault, it does it around 2or3 times out of 5.
In these cases when moving the selector from park to reverse, there’s resistance on the lever going to R. If you push it through, there’s a thud coming from the gearbox, you can also feel it in the vehicle.
It sometimes has the same sound when putting into D and pulling away after reversing.
Other times it moves smoothly from P to R, no issue. Like I said, about 3 out of 5 there’s an issue.

I know nothing about the automatic gearbox. Has anybody experienced this before? Is this normal?
Thank you.
Wishing my life away till the next trip!

Hi Cinco,

Tell your friend to check on the following.
When he puts it in park, is it on a level surface or an incline? When on an incline the box will have some resistance going out of park as the vehicle strains forward or backwards. Pulling the handbrake before putting it into park also help a bit. (depends on your handbrake  )

The same will go for reverse to drive.

It does not seem to be a big problem.

Please give feedback if possible.

Regards,
Willem

Sometimes through the years of use those parking pawl locks goes bust.
The lock and shaft either does not want to slide lekker anymore or it refuses to engage.
I've have started the habit of stopping and starting in Neutral and saves an
additional kickback when going from P to D through the Reverse and vice versa.
It is a relative easy fix.
I got arrested for driving naked. I guess I shouldn’t have put four wheels, an engine, and a steering wheel on my bathtub.
I’m a do-it-yourself kind of lover.
