Vacuum Gauge

Anybody ever used a vacuum gauge to set your air correction screw or timing?

No, not on a manifold or single air intake - usually used to balance two or more carbs. I assume that you're talking about vacuum in the manifold (after the throttle butterfly) and not before the carb / throttle body. Before the throttle butterfly would really only tell you if your filter was clogged or air supply was restricted.

If you're talking about ignition timing it will have very little effect on the vacuum post throttle, valve timing and duration however would.

I'm not sure what you're wanting to achieve. Maybe you can elaborate.

An old V8 mechanic down the road told me it is the best way to adjust air correction screw. I did google search and it seems like the Yanks love these gauges and use it all the time. The one video I checked the guy even showed how you can see where the sweet spot on your timing is with the vacuum gauge.

Especially if you have something like a 38 weber or Holley with 2x air correction screws, the vacuum gauge makes it much easier and accurate.

Hah! Yes of course, with a 4 barrel carb and 2 correction screws it makes sense to balance them. On most carbs the air correction is meant for idle speeds, but it does make a small difference on higher revs. It's balancing the mixture settings (if your carb has them) that's a bit tricky.
