Problem with 33" tyres.....Please advise

Post by Beastly Black »

Hi all.
I have the problem with 33" tyres on the front of my Toyota , the tyres tend to catch against the body. I have heard that other Toyota drivers have a way of moving the front axle forward. I would like to know how it is done and what parts are involved.

Your help would be great thanks!

I made this post last night on 4x4community:
Redrill the holes in the spring perches. Move them 35mm! Measure accurately, otherwise the axle will be skew.
Then you need to change the steering link and the trackbar length as well. This requires welding on these parts, and unless you really know what you're doing with a welder, get an engineering shop to do it for you.

On my 2.8D hilux I had 31's and they scraped under articulation with standard suspension.

To make the 35's work on the front of my lux I had to do all of the following:
65mm bodylift
35mm axle move
50mm bumpstop extensions
30mm wheel spacers
trimming the fender and flattening the body seam

Here are the wheel spacers and their effect:

After:

The flattened body seam, after this I still cut a big chunk off the fender as well:

I took this pic to show the steering dmper before I replaced it, but you can see the extended bumpstop in the back ground....I must still fit the OME springs to get some suspension travel again:
