Removing Alternator 2.5 / 3.0 D4D

Post by OOOOMS »

Hi, I need to remove the alternator of my 2.5 D4D.

What I have done so far:
1) Disconnected battery
2) Removed airfilter housing connected to snorkel
3) Loosened alternator bolt

Now this is where I am stuck. The belt is holding the alternator and not sure how to release it! One of the pully's needs to be released....

Can anyone help?

For the amatures like me, here is how it is done: on 2,5 D4D 4X4.
1) Remove battery terminals
2) Remove air filter and housing

3) Remove fan-belt
(Pully is springloaded and fanbelt can be loosened 14 spanner or socket)
DSC04169 (Small) (2).JPG
5) Remove pully in front of the alternator. There are two bolts holding the alternator in place. One visible from the side and one underneath.

Gewoonlik nadat die bakkie warm gery is +- 30 km of so.

More Mark,

OK, just an update on my alt. to keep the thread together:

The past few months my alternator has been playing up / sorta screeches now and again(not the belt noise, but more a bearing noise) but comes and goes every now and then. Tested it and found 13.8 Volt constant.

So this week I stripped it again, and found he bearings were no that fresh any more. So before attacking it with a 10 pound hammer, I decided to take it in to Motolec, in Krugersdorp. Dropped it off at 08h00 and by 14h00 it was ready for collection, efficient I may add. R450.00 for the two bearing & labour.
But.....when I got there, Chris - the owner advised me that the Alt. clutch was also not to good. Luckily he had a new one and I advised him to replace also R295.00.

So got home and replaced the 'refurbished alt.' - no problem!

Measured the alternator and now giving 14.25 Volt!

Great

So vir ons wat nie so lekker weet nie, waar meet mens die volts. As jy se alternator, wys asb 'n prentjie want sover ek weet is dit nogal diep weg gesteek. Dan, waarmee meet jy dit? Sommer met so multimeter vanaf adendorffs?

Dankie

Work is keeping me busy and quiet
Most definitely, no YouTube videos helped but this got me going coop chop
I imagine relaxing will be simple too
One thing the write up missed was that the pulley in front just above of the alternator had to come off too the top alternator bolt won't come out otherwise

so my alternator also gave up... took it out to repair at sparky..
but in the process had to remove one idler pulley else top alternator nut would not come out.

but when i put it back.. and refitted the idler puller... not sure how tight to make it... could one overtighten this pulley?
