Replacing old globes with LED globes on my SFA

Post by Stubs »

thought this might be of use to all us SFA drivers, I was twiddling my thumbs yesterday evening and thought let me get around to swapping out some of the globes that can be upgraded with LED globes. This specifically is the Reverse lights and the small side lights up front next to the indicators

for the reverse you need this

http://www.4x4direct.co.za/shop/led-glo ... 5-p-75.htm" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

and for the lights up front these

http://www.4x4direct.co.za/shop/led-glo ... -p-104.htm" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

The difference is truly amazing, the lights up front are now like proper driving lights and I can drive in daytime without having to put my full headlights on, and the reverse lights now actually light up where you are reversing......

I am going to look at my Dashboard lights over weekend and will let you know on Monday....

cheers

Which ones are you referring to Stu? :think: The front park lights? (Those would take a T10 wedge)

That's often used as the front park lights, This is so when there is an indicator in the bumper and the side of the fender, in which case it would use the T10 wedge. ;-)

Can LED's be dimmed, for instance in the dashboard, one can dim the brightness down, can a LED adapt this.
Also any thoughts and advise in replacing trailer taillights with LED's. (this is to be towed by a toyota, I understand some newer other brands does not recognize the lower current)

It's true that LED's won't dim with a reostat, although if the voltage drops they do actually dim slightly but hardly noticeable. Many LED units make use of three diodes per cluster and if you can separate the negative legs for each diode, you could hook then up to a controller or 3-way switch that would allow you to choose 1, 2 or all 3 diodes to light up. This would at least give you an option of three brightness levels ..... not sure how well this would work for dimming dash lights since LED's burn quite a lot brighter than incandescents.
When your road comes to an end ...... you need a HILUX!.

Hi Stubs/Pieter,

The link is dead, do you still have something I can use in the reverse lights of my SFA?

Thanks

LED's won't dim?

Older thread I understand but when I converted my dash lights to LED's, my dash dimmer still works as it should:
with LED's
