Aircon not working effeciently

If your aircon is not cold enough, do yourself a favour and bypass the pipes that goes into your heater valve. I have done this om my Hilux and found that the heater valve when fully closed was still not sealing 100%, meaning that I have been driving around with the aircon on and blowing the heater at low temp at the same time. Therefore very poor performance from the aircon.

Apparrantly its a common problem on the older one's due to the seal that ages inside the valve.

Replaced the heater valve and voila, she is cold enough for me to drive around comfortable.

The heater valve can set you back almost R1000.00, I use one from a Mk 1 Golf, they are less than R100.00 new and fits with a small modification.

I bought mine last year new from my friend at the "stealers" for about just under R 500-00. Didn't knew a golf unit could also fit.

Could you describe the mod, please? I bought a Golf valve for Shorty, but it is not a success. Photos would, of course, always be nice ;)
