Sounds like your pump is cavitating. Jack up the front of the car and while checking the fluid level in the reservoir, with the car running, turn your steering slowly from side to side, holding it against the steering stops for 2-3 seconds every time. This should bleed the system. If you have a bleed nipple on your steering box - you will see it right on top at the valve box - loosen with the steering centered, check for clean fluid. Turn to one side to full lock, open bleeder until clean, repeat for other side. If all this doesn't help, you need to overhaul the pump and box. I have done this many times and can guide you through it.

Hi Eric, you seem to be knowleagable about all things Hilux. I posted a point on the board querying the fault on my Lux. When I turn the wheel there is a "dry" sound and ver, very small vibration. I have checked the fluid level and it is within the required levels. I don't want to strip the pump out if it could be something else. Can you possibly advise where I should start my fault finding?

That 'dry' sound when you turn to full lock is the pressure by-pass valve kicking in ..... the pressure from the pump has to relieve, otherwise it will damage something. This can in some cases produce a light vibration that can be felt. It may just only be that, but check that there are no loose components (box, pump etc).
When your road comes to an end ...... you need a HILUX!.

Nope Dillon, not me! I was just quoting what DieselDog (no relation) said. Mud Dog (no relation) also has some good advice.
