KZ-TE Hilux - Noisy Speedo on Startup

Post by JaMMeX »

Hey,

My speedo makes this Super Charger whine hehe when I drive her for the first 3km. It whines as it revs lol

Hi Bruce,

I have an SFA, but have experienced a similar issue which made the speedo needle jump... for most guys the fix is to buy a new cable... but if the IFS is anything like the SFA in terms of the speedo operation then theres a cost effective fix...

Over time the lubrication in the speedo cable dries up(probably due to heat, dirt ingress and gravity)... this leads to dry/high resistance spots on the inside of the cable... and some whining/speedo jumping... the quick fix on the SFA is to unscrew the cable connection to the gearbox, then slide out the metal inner cable from the outer plastic sheath... clean the steel cable properly with thinners( or something else that will dissolve the old grease)... then lubricate the steel cable with a good quality grease as you feed it back into the outer plastic sheath... and screw the connection back onto the gearbox... additionally you can remove the dash instrument cluster to access the speedo cable from the top, then before feeding the steel inner back into the sheath, spray something like lithium grease into the sheath... so that the cable is 100% lubricated right to the top. If you only do the 'quick fix', then it's a really quick easy job!

Bruce let us know how it goes.

My brother bought a 2700i 4x4 Legend a few weeks ago and his speedo needle jumps as well.
